Silanos had only been to Taengea once before, and that was many moons ago when he’d barely been tall enough to reach his mother’s waist, holding on to her hand as they visited lots of people he didn’t know with names he couldn’t remember. She was not by his side now.
The young Valaoritis lord had made the crossing alone this time, with little but the clothes on his back and the gold that he carried. He hadn’t planned it terribly well, but there had been a burning need to get away from Eubocris, to see something other than the grief that lined his mother’s face, the fierceness that was on his brothers.
Thanatos had visited upon their family too much. He had taken his father, after so long fighting illness and then in an act too cruel for Sil to think upon, let alone understand, his eldest brother so soon after. Nico should not have died. Nico wasn’t sick, or old.
For a while, Silanos had tried to go along as he was, to be there and do the right thing. But as Timaeus seemed to square his shoulders and bear the weight of his new responsibilities, Sil felt like he was breaking apart. He couldn’t sit there in those walls and pretend everything was fine and they could just continue. He felt like something in him was winding tighter and tighter and at some point it would snap. Usually happy-go-lucky and easily distractible, he found little comfort in his friends, nor even the offerings of the capital. Everywhere he looked was filled with memories and it was like being slapped in the face with loss wherever he looked.
He hadn’t asked if he could go. He’d just told his brother and mother, and what could they say? Timaeus had done the exact same thing. He hadn’t even cared where, just picked the first ship that was leaving.
One that had happened to be heading to Taengea, and now Silanos was here, he was beginning to wonder if maybe he shouldn’t have at least planned a little bit. Disembarking the ship and gazing up at the white city it was barely even familiar to him, he had no idea where he was going or what he was doing. Noone he knew, nowhere to stay…
Deciding that he might as well start off with a tavern, because they usually led on to better and bigger things, he wandered up towards the city proper.
He slouched at a corner table in the first taverna he came to, ordered wine and bread and cheese and rolled a coin between his fingers as he considered what he might do next. Letting his gaze roam around the room, it was habit that saw it pass over and then return to the pretty blonde thing he saw, an easy smile sent her way. Sometimes it was best to start with what you know, right?
Confidence was not a thing that the young lord lacked in, despite unfamiliar surroundings. He wore his charm easily, a careless and slightly roguish edge that had served him well enough in the past and Silanos lifted his cup in toast to the girl, patted the seat next to him. Maybe that was what he needed, a nice local guide. His expectation was that she would join him. If not, well it was her loss wasn’t it? He sipped on his wine - which was bloody good he realised- and waited to see if the blonde would bite.

It was just another day for Eleni.
More specifically, another night avoiding reality. Avoiding a brother her thought her shallow. Avoiding the man who had infiltrated her home. Avoiding the mother who despised her. Avoiding the reality that she was entirely unwanted in her life. So she did the only thing she knew the feel better.
She went to one of her favorite local taverns where the wine flowed and pretty faces filled the room. A place where she could drown herself in things far more pleasant than her misery. The only thing she knew for certain was she would not be ending the night alone or sober. She would not face the nightmares tonight. No, she would lose herself in the euphoria of another. It was the only thing powerful enough to chase all the darkness away from her soul, if only for a little while.
Until she found the right man to occupy her through the night until she collapsed in exhausted dreamless sleep, she would enjoy the wine that was plentiful in Taengea. She had an affection for the drink that went far beyond her family’s trade. Wine blurred away all the bad. It could turn someone ugly into someone one desired. It could make someone giddy on the worst night of their life. It could make someone without a single redeeming quality into the most fun person to be around. It could make all the horrible memories slip away for awhile.
At least, that was what it always managed to do for her. How could that be anything less than a miracle?
Eleni took care with her appearance, but fortunately her natural beauty made little effort required. Some light cosmetics and fine enough attire was all it took to enhance what was already obvious. Even at her most self-loathing, she couldn’t deny her own attractiveness. She wore a peplos in a vivid shade of magenta, the warm Gamos weather allowing her to forgo a chiton beneath it. She accented this with a belt, the fastenings at her shoulders and the bracelets that she wore on her arms all in the palest of gold, much like the long curls which she let fall loosely down her back.
For now she stood, drink in hand as she surveyed the room and all those within it. There were options to choose from, but it was a newcomer who caught her eye. It seemed the feeling was mutual as he met her gaze with a smile before lifting his glass in her direction. She offered a smile in return, glancing around her as though not quite certain his attentions were meant for her. She didn’t really need to consider the choice of joining him. After all, she admired the confidence and he was easy on the eyes. Seemed exactly the sort who could distract her. So with a careful toss of her hair over her shoulder she began to walk towards him and the seat by his side he silently offered.
Her hips swayed as she approached, sauntering with her eyes locked on his and a mischievous smirk tugging at her lips as she finally slid into the empty seat beside him. “I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before,” she mused softly, studying his face now that she was closer. He was certainly enjoyable to look at even up close. She found herself leaning towards him instinctively before pulling back to take a sip of her own glass of line which was bordering close to empty.
“Seems you’re alone tonight. Perhaps we should change that?”

He was certainly enjoyable to look at even up close. She found herself leaning towards him instinctively before pulling back to take a sip of her own glass of line which was bordering close to empty.
“Seems you’re alone tonight. Perhaps we should change that?”
Sil watched the girl, stare unwavering as she approached. When she drew near, his smile remained in place as he gave an easy shrug. “Not been around here before, so that’s hardly surprising” he replied, using his foot to kick out the chair for her. The young lord leant forward almost as she did and his grin turned mischievous at their new proximity before his fingers closed around the jug of wine on the table as he offered to pour for her.
“May I?” He waited for her to set down her cup, laughing a little at how forward she was. “I think you’ve done that already haven’t you? Or are you off again now you’ve got your refill?"
She was stunning up close, hair as fair as any he’d seen, and more pleasing, with a ready smile. Yeah, she’d do. Taking a drink of his own wine, he cocked a brow at her. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d come across a girl out for what she could get, and honestly, Sil didn’t begrudge it. Quite often it could end in a mutually satisfying way. And it sure beat sitting here on his own
“Silanos” he offered, as he set the cup down with a soft click. “ And you are…?”
She was dressed better than a tavern girl, finer fabric, more ornamentation. Confident too, in his presence which wasn’t always the case. Though, and here Sil took a glance down at himself, he supposed he didn’t exactly look like much, with his travel-worn garb and the satchel at his feet. The sooner he could get a bath the better. He didn’t smell he didn’t think but his hair was stiff with salt and decidedly haphazard, and the chiton he wore sort of looked as if he’d slept in it. Which he had because he couldn’t be bothered unpacking anything else and, fuck, he was surrounded by sailors who were hardly in a position to judge his sartorial choices.
“You a local girl?” he asked, assuming it was the case but checking anyway. He wondered idly if the tavern they were in had rooms if they would be too disgusting. Glancing around the tavern it didn’t look too horrific, mostly clean, the clientele looked decent. Hopefully, this girl would have an opinion one way or the other. He wasn’t sure how long he’d stay in Vasiliadon, whether he might move around, see some of the provinces, but he figured he could definitely have picked a worse ship to get on. He ought to write to his mother too, and Tim. Let them know where he was.
That could wait though. He’d come away, after all, for some distraction from the misery at home, and he didn’t want it souring his mood already. This was new and different and hopefully enough that he could shake off the uncharacteristic melancholy that had become his friend at home. Fuck that.
“Hey listen, I literally just got here and need to find somewhere to stay,” he said, looking to his new companion. “You know anywhere half-decent?”

He confirmed what she already suspected - he was a traveler or visitor. She didn’t yet know if he was only passing through or if he meant to linger in Vasiliadon for a duration. She hadn’t decided yet which outcome she was hoping for. Perhaps by the end of the night she would. After all, she didn’t need to know his life story to enjoy his company.
She placed her cup on the table with a coy smile as he refilled her glass. His reply drew a laugh from her lips - a genuine one at that. It seemed he could keep pace with her wit, a refreshing change from men who were too dense for such conversation. “It seemed only fair to give you the chance to change your mind,” she answered with a shrug before sipping at her wine once more.
Already the thoughts that had driven her here tonight were slipping away. All the more reason to stay. It seemed this Silanos was exactly the remedy she had hoped to find tonight.
“Eleni,” she answered as she looked up at him through the stray blonde locks that had fallen forward in her laughter. She took the moment to place her own glass aside, her gaze fixed upon the man before her. She gave a nod at his guess. “Indeed I am,” she assured him. “I’m guessing you are freshly arrived,” she said, gesturing to his rumpled attire and discarded satchel. “Are you new to Vasiliadon or Taengea as a whole?” she asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
He seemed to have come to some sort of decision, though precisely what she could not know. Her eyebrows rose slightly as she asked about a place to stay. “I know many,” she answered with that casual half shrug. “But to make a proper recommendation, I’m afraid I’d need more information.” She paused a moment, as though considering. “If you are eager to retire and simply looking for convenience, the rooms here are quite respectable. Though if you were intent on a longer stay, I might have a few other suggestions that might offer you some additional comforts.” Granted, it would also depend on the sort of coin he was willing to spend. But as a lady, she wasn’t about to ask such a thing. The last thing she wanted was for him to think she was sizing up his purse.
“If its not too bold to ask, are you here for business or pleasure, Silanos?” she asked, leaning towards him again, her head slightly tilted as she watched him, wondering if perhaps he might be looking for more than just assistance finding a place to sleep for the night. She inched forward slightly more, her voice a soft purr as she continued. “I only ask because I’d hate for you to feel remotely unwelcome here. Taengea prides itself on the hospitality of its people after all. So it’s only fitting that I do everything I can to best assist you, no?”

“How very generous of you” Sil drawled, laughing quietly at the idea she was offering him an easy out. Her name, easily given in exchange for his own, was pretty enough to match her face and the young Lord nodded, a local girl as he’d expected. He found the subtle differences in her accent entertaining, a reminder of how he was somewhere new. He guessed his voice would give him away too if his travel-worn attire did not. Oh. Well, that answered that one then.
“Is it that obvious?” He ran a hand through his hair which just left it sticking up everywhere and gave a shrug. He couldn’t do much about his appearance, which honestly, had never worked against him, rumpled or no. Boyish charm let him get away with a lot and that suited Sil just fine.
“Both. Mostly. I came here as a child once.” he replied as to whether he was new to the city or the kingdom. Idly, he tried to guess the girl’s age. Not far off his own, he gauged, maybe a year or two older.
Her return question about his intentions was fair enough, but Silanos wasn’t entirely sure of his answer, hesitating a moment as he considered. “I guess how long I stay will be determined by what kind of time I have. I haven’t made any plans yet.”
Which was fine by him. The whole point of this thing was just to have fun, and that made answering the girl’s next inquiry as easy as anything. “The latter” He caught her gaze as he spoke, smile widening as she tipped forward into his space. She was definitely welcoming and though a sensible man might tread with caution when it came to pretty and accommodating women who made themselves too readily available to a Lord in a tavern, Silanos thought being sensible was highly overrated.
“That’s very...dedicated of you,” he said, grinning into his wine as he went to take another sip. “I have to say, I very much look forward to experiencing the famed hospitality of Taengea and all she has to offer.”
As he finished, a serving girl came over with the platter of bread and cheese that he’d asked for, and Sil pushed it in Eleni’s direction, indicating she should help herself. He picked up a chunk of bread and swiped it through the pat of golden butter before cramming the whole thing into his mouth. Ship’s rations were shit and it was nice to have something that didn’t taste like it had been sitting in a barrel for a month.
Licking the butter off his fingertips, Sil pointed one at Eleni. “You could be my guide. Where would you send a visitor to see the best of it?”

Licking the butter off his fingertips, Sil pointed one at Eleni. “You could be my guide. Where would you send a visitor to see the best of it?”
“I’m glad you agree,” she teased with a soft giggle as she gently tossed her hair over her shoulder. “You’ll find that I can be a very generous person,” she continued, her eyes drifting down from his face to his chest with a smirk before glancing back up. Her smile widened, silently teasing him that he just might be lucky enough to find out for himself if he played his cards right.
“Only a little,” she answered, not unkindly. She couldn’t suppress the chuckle that came as he ran his fingers through his hair, only making it all the more chaotic. “You look a bit disheveled, its true. But somehow on you, it comes off as charming rather than sloppy.” She couldn’t resist leaning forward to playfully ruffle his already mussed hair for herself. “Then again, I am fairly certain you already know that.” He carried himself with the confidence of someone aware of his looks and charms. Perhaps too much so.
Luckily, that wasn’t an issue for Eleni.
“Well, I’m delighted in your choice to return,” she responded with a smile. “Then again, I suppose I am quite biased, but I’d hate to imagine being denied the opportunity to meet you had you chosen differently.” She couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow however as he admitted he hadn’t decided how long he would stay. That intrigued her more than she cared to admit. Still, she’d see how tonight went before she started hoping that he might linger her for awhile yet. After all, he might prove a disappointment.
Though if things were half as good as the flirting, she had no reason to worry.
Her interest sharpened as he admitted to being here for pleasure, and she found herself hoping that she would indeed get the chance to be a part of that for him. Well, and for herself as well, of course. There was something compelling about him that drew her in and she was curious to see where it led them. Based on the impression that he gave off, it seemed as though he might be a similar spirit she could quite enjoy spending some quality time with.
Her grin widened at his response, thoroughly thrilled as he played along. Yes, they could have quite a bit of fun together. “I couldn’t live with myself if I offered anything less,” she answered with dramatic mock-seriousness. “Besides, I would consider myself so very lucky to be the one honored with the pleasure of welcoming you to the land of indulgence.”
A platter of bread and cheese arrived then, and she hesitated only slightly before he nudged it towards her in open invitation. She was selecting a piece of cheese when she glanced up to see Silanos cramming an entire chunk of bread into his mouth like a starved boy. She couldn’t help a small laugh, though she had the decency to cover her mouth with a hand to muffle it. Surprisingly she found it quite endearing, though it took her a moment to realize why.
It was a relief to meet someone who didn’t take everything so seriously for once.
She paused to take a bite of the cheese, closing her eyes as she savored the rich flavor. “I would enjoy that,” she agreed. “Though I suppose it depends just what it is you want to see the best of. Believe it or not, you’ve already chosen quite well if you want to sample the better wines of the city. Now, if you were looking to buy for your own enjoyment, that’s another matter altogether.”
With that, she slid a little closer to him, holding out a slice of cheese for him to sample. She found herself watching him with curiosity, wondering if he would take the offered food in hand or simply lean forward to take a bite.
“Tell me, just what is it that a dashing man such as yourself finds pleasure in?”

Eleni was not subtle in her flirting, and Silanos wasn’t going to complain about the fact. If she wanted to be ‘generous’ then that was fine by him. He raised his brows when she leant over to ruffle his hair like he was some kind of puppy, a smug little grin only serving to confirm her assertion that the young lord knew what worked for him and what didn’t. Still, Sil would like a bath. He’d rather be dishevelled and clean that dishevelled and dirty. Or..that kind of dirty anyway.
His gaze lifted over her shoulder for a moment as he tried to work out who she’d been with. Surely not alone? But then he supposed she wasn’t of noble birth, and commoners seemed to be a lot less precious about such things. Maybe she was here alone. He wondered for about a second what kind of girl that made her and then decided just as quickly that he didn’t really care.
“I didn’t so much choose” he mused, as she spoke to him returning to Taengea. “As I got on a boat and it ended up here. Not that I’m complaining”
Indeed, right at that moment, Silanos was feeling as though he might have landed on his feet. Finding a pleasant company in the first tavern hed walked in to was more than he’d been looking for, and Eleni was proving pretty damn pleasant thus far.
When the food came, he lifted an eyebrow at her amusement and shrugged unapologetically. “Look, the food on a ship is bad, ok. I feel hollow” he complained good-naturedly. The lord’s gaze lingered on her face a moment as she ate, the enjoyment evident in her expression rather distracting, and when she offered out a bit of cheese his eyes flickered from her face to it and back up again before he grinned. Reaching his hand to curl fingers around her wrist, he guided her hand so he could take a bite of it, giving a small ‘hmm’ of satisfaction before he released his hold on her.
“S’good. Wine is good, company seems reasonable so far” He shot a grin at Eleni,”I think I picked the right boat”
Silanos gave an ill-disguised snort at being described as dashing and fixed the girl with a look. “Oh I’m pretty open to any ideas you might have,” he said with a wink. “ I’m here to...soak up the local culture and whatnot. So why don’t you tell me what you do for kicks around here”

It was barely there, but there was a smugness to his grin that confirmed exactly what she suggested. It only made her like him all the more. She couldn’t help but notice the way his gaze shifted over her shoulder, searching the crowd for something. After a moment, she smiled slightly. “No need to worry. I was alone tonight before you came in. There’s no one to challenge you for my attention,” she teased with a laugh.
She leaned forward as he spoke, surprised and intrigued by the revelation he offered. “So spontaneous,” she murmured, her blue eyes alight. “Well, I’m glad you’re satisfied with where the winds of fate have led you. I’d like to think perhaps the company you’ve found is a factor in that.” She couldn’t resist giving him a playful wink as she spoke, thoroughly enjoying herself in a way she hadn’t in far too long. Not everyone could keep up with her after all, let alone challenge her.
“Now, we certainly can’t have that,” she agreed. “You’ll need your energy to enjoy all that Taengea has to offer, of course.” Yes, she could think of a handful of activities she hoped he would have the energy - and stamina - for. She could swear her skin nearly sizzled from the contact as his hand wrapped around her wrist to guide the offered cheese to his mouth. The small sound of satisfaction he offered as he held her still was enough to make her mouth run dry. If there had been any doubt before, it was gone now. This wasn’t the sort of man she flirted with and left wanting more, or the sort to share some kisses in a dark corner with and then forget.
No, she definitely wouldn’t be forgetting this one.
“I’m certainly inclined to agree. Though I imagine a ship’s amenities are quite lacking in many regards beyond just food. You’ll simply have to make up for lost time here, I suppose,” she continued with a small shrug, feeling the heat of a tell-tale blush on her pale skin and already missing the contact between them. Still, she tried to play it off as casual, as though he didn’t have her heart racing. She quickly dipped her head, hoping to downplay the flush of her skin, her pale hair falling forward into her face as she looked up again.
“Well, Dionysius is the patron god of Taengea,” she said slyly. “We believe that life is meant to be enjoyed, enthusiastically.” There was no need to elaborate just how enthusiastic she could be. “Well, you’ve already sampled some of our wine. There is much I could show you... though if you were intent on staying for a time, there would be no need to rush. After all, the joys of Taengea are best savored.” Her voice was a purr as she spoke, her eyes darkening with desire as she watched him.
“Are you eager to explore the city or would you perhaps prefer to find a room so that you can... rejuvenate yourself from your long voyage?”

Silanos had torn another chunk of bread into two, and he chewed on it as he sat back and looked at his new companion thoughtfully. She was forward, which he was enjoying, and fun. He wondered why she was on her own for a moment, before dismissing it as irrelevant, given that she wasn’t anymore.
Glad that she didn't ask why he’d left Colchis on his mystery voyage, his lips lifted in a little smirk, Silanos shaking his head slightly. “I don’t know” he mused. “Getting a bit ahead of ourselves if you’re asking if I’m satisfied, aren’t you? Shouldn’t that come later?”
He caught and held her gaze, one eyebrow flicking up playfully. It might be that she was a particularly attractive whore, but Sil wouldn’t object at throwing some coin at her if it turned out that she was. And if she wasn’t? Well, then she might just be his dream girl.
“You have no idea” he bemoaned, pulling a face at the remembered sea voyage. His quarters had been modest to say the least, and gods if sailing wasn’t just so dull. He’d played a few games of dice with the sailors here and there, but there had been far too much time for thinking for Sil’s liking. He wanted distractions, something to stop his thoughts from returning to what he’d left behind him. His first hour on land was already proving more enjoyable, thank fuck, thanks in no small part to his new friend.
Noting the flush that coloured up her fair skin and filing the knowledge away for later, Sil reached out to tuck her hair behind her ear almost unthinkingly. “ Your hair is pretty” he observed, letting it slide through his fingers before he pulled back.
And he smiled widely when she mentioned Dionysus. “See? What a patron God to choose. In Colchis, we have the blacksmith God and the God of War. No party God. I swear its where we went wrong.” Any place that made the God of Wine their patron surely had the right idea. Taking another sip of wine as Eleni went on, the young Lord considered his options.
“Well, I’m not in any hurry for now. Certainly not going to be getting on another fucking boat for a while” he proclaimed after a moment, stretching long legs out before him. “I could do with a bath at some point. Some more of this wine and some more of you would be nice.”
He tilted his head a little “Assuming you don’t have anywhere else to be, that is?”

He tilted his head a little “Assuming you don’t have anywhere else to be, that is?”
“That’s a very interesting point you make,” she mused with a wry grin. “You’re right though. That does come later. For now... you’re merely content. I’ll just have to see what I can do to fix that,” she continued with a soft laugh and a teasing wink. It seemed more than clear that this was the direction the night was heading after all. At least, she certainly hoped so. Perhaps his clever wit would prove a sign that his tongue was skilled in other matters as well.
His dramatic outcry at the misery of his voyage earned a genuine, full-bodied laugh from her. “Such a shame, but all the more reason to revel in the pleasures of Taengea tonight, no?”
Eleni could only watch him as he reached out to gently tuck her hair back behind her ear. Such a small gesture, and yet she found it leaving her heart racing a little faster. His fingers lingered, sliding through the lengths of her hair before falling away at last. It only made her want more of his touch. His compliment deepened her blush slightly, though this time she made no effort to hide the effect he was having upon her, instead murmuring a soft thanks.
Her nose wrinkled a little as he spoke of the patrons of Colchis. “How dreary, though I suppose it makes sense with the military renown of Colchis.” She sighed softly, as though to clear away the dull topic to make room for something more exciting. “Here in Taengea we have the God of Wine and Revelry, the Goddess of romance, and the God of light and the arts. A far more enjoyable assortment I’d say. Simply enjoying oneself can be an act of worship here. Just think of all the wonderful possibilities.”
Silanos drew another laugh from her as he expressed his disinterest in returning to a boat anytime soon. “All good options,” she purred in agreement, pleased that he had included her in his list of interests. “Don’t you fret, there’s nowhere else for me to be tonight but by your side,” she assured him with a smile. She paused a moment to think. “Our bathhouse is one of the finest in Greece,” she began. “It may be a little crowded yet at this hour, though there are private rooms available for those who can afford them.” Her eyes surveyed him briefly. She knew nothing of his position in life, but even in his rumpled travel attire, he didn’t seem poor.
Eleni gave a small shrug. “If that appeals to you, of course. I am sure there are plenty other options that could occupy us tonight.” She glanced around, as though looking for eavesdroppers before gesturing him closer with a beckoning finger. “Want to know a secret?” She waited for him to move closer before sliding closer herself to whisper in his ear. “Even if I had somewhere else to be tonight, those plans would have been canceled the moment you invited me over here.”

The young lord took another drink of the Taengean wine, wondered belatedly if perhaps he should have watered it a little and then dismissed the notion just as quickly. It was deliciously rich on his tongue and it would be criminal to dilute such a flavour. Never mind that he wanted that warmth and fuzziness that came with such pursuits, and that would be found quicker without the addition of water.
Eleni certainly seemed amenable to offering her own warmth to that equation too, and Silanos was happier still with that, casually letting his arm drape over her shoulder, toying with her hair where his hand settled on the opposite side.
“Oh I intend to” he replied with a wicked grin when she spoke of revelling in the pleasures offered by her home.
And he couldn't agree more with her summation of his own country. Sil often felt like he was cut from a different cloth from his countrymen. He had no burning desire to fight, he got easily bored by the often rigid nature of his fellows. It had seemed fortunate that he’d been born the third son: there were no expectations for him to deliver on, no responsibilities set for him. Or at least there hadn't been...until Nico.
His future seemed less certain now, and that was enough to have Silanos shove all thoughts of home away once more. Fuck it. He’d come to forget that. “I want all of them” he declared. “All the possibilities. As my official guide, it's your job to deliver, right?” There was a hint of a dare in the gaze he turned on her, and Sil refilled her cup again with his free hand, then lifted his own in a toast. “To uh..new friendships and goodwill between our two kingdoms” He gave her a little squeeze when she said she had nowhere else to be, that sounded pretty good to him, though then his thoughts turned towards the bathhouse and the interesting potential that could have.
His eyes wandered over Eleni again and Sil paused as if considering. “Private rooms, huh? I guess that might not be intolerable. Depending on the company”
When she beckoned him in with a promise of a secret, the lord was happy to oblige, tilting his head down so she could speak into his ear, only for that little smirk to appear again at her words. “Is that so? I’m flattered then. Best not make it a wasted evening. I reckon we finish up here, you can show me this bathhouse and we can see about one of those private rooms, and then see where the night takes us hmmm? I am ready for cultural exchanges.”
He was quick to drain the wine in his cup and shoved a bit more food into his face with the enthusiasm only a teenage boy could possess before he pushed to his feet and offered Eleni an arm. With a quick stop to ask the barkeep to hold a room for him, Sil was ready to go, idling as he waited on his new companion to lead the way. When she did, and they stepped out into the street again, he decided maybe he could figure out if this was a purely social understanding or if she was a high end, subtle professional. He didn’t care either way at this point.
“ So, for the sake of clarity, can we just establish if this company is...professional or not, Eleni? Not that I mind, it's just better to know upfront you know?”

Eleni leaned into him as he draped his arm over her shoulders, finding the gesture remarkably comfortable. He had such an easygoing nature that complimented her philosophy on life. It made sitting with him like this feel so easy and pleasant. She tried to ignore how the way his fingers toyed with her hair had her all but purring in delight. This one was going to be trouble.
Luckily, trouble was exactly what she was looking for.
It seemed the Colchian had the same idea, thank the gods. His answer quickly had her laughing though. “I like the way you think,” she managed to say through her giggling. “It is my most sacred duty to do just that, of course,” she continued with mock-serious enthusiasm. She lifted her glass in a toast after he finished refilling it, clinking it lightly against his own. “To new friendships and goodwill between us,” she echoed with a smile.
A smile that grew wider against the rim of her cup as he gave her a light squeeze. “Oh yes, they’re really quite impressive. Very luxurious.” She offered him a coy smile. “But I imagine with the right company, they must surely be even better.” She pretended to consider it a moment. “I mean, you did say you wanted all of the possibilities after all... Perhaps we need to put that theory to the test.”
Her shared secret earned the reaction she had hoped for. She was finding herself quite infatuated with that smirk of his. She listened with a grin of her own that seemed to grow wider the more he said. “Oh yes, I see cultural exchanges aplenty in our future,” she agreed, leaning into him once more, her face pressing into the crook of his neck for a moment, nuzzling against the tender flesh there. “That sounds like a fantastic start to the evening.”
Who knew where it might progress from there? That was the beauty of it after all.
They drained their glasses and Eleni had a few more bites of cheese as the young man ate quickly with an enthusiasm that she had seldom before seen. When he finally stood, offering her an arm, she accepted graciously, standing with an innate grace. They made their way to the tavern’s exit, pausing only briefly for Silanos to request that a room be held for him. Once they stepped into the street, she began to lead the way towards the infamous bathhouse, pausing only as he asked her a question.
For a moment she could only stare at him before she began to laugh. For such a proud woman, she couldn’t even muster up any feelings of offense. “I assure you, Silanos, it is your company that interests me tonight rather than your coin.” She gave him a playful bump of her shoulder against his arm, silently teasing him for the confusion. Anyone who knew her would laugh at the notion that she was capable of any sort of responsibility. “There is absolutely nothing professional about me, I promise,” she continued with a shake of her head, her pale golden curls moving dramatically with the simple motion.
“Not having second thoughts, are you?”

It was an easy repartee, and well within Silanos’ comfort zone, familiar enough to make for a pleasant grounding even in what was a foreign place. Eleni made for welcome company. Ready smiles and at least half a brain, he was counting himself lucky to have found her so soon. And honestly, he wouldn’t have felt any different had she turned out to be a whore, but when she stopped and stared at him in the street he could already take a guess at the answer he was going to get. Well, this might be interesting
As Eleni laughed, Sil grimaced and shrugged. “I just didn’t want us to have any awkward misunderstanding later” he explained, at least having the grace to look a little apologetic. “Really you just consider it a compliment to how charming you are”. His accompanying grin was hopeful. And when the girl suggested he might be having second thoughts, the young lord’s expression was almost comical.
“Uh, no.” he asserted. “ Not now you’ve laid promises of all the wonders of Taengea in front of me. We have a deal. No, take-backs”
Gods, he felt lighter already. The past couple of months in Eubocris had been grim and weighted with grief that seemed more oppressive than the rock faces that surrounded them. His decision to leave had barely been a choice, it was that or go mad pacing around that house that was too empty but too filled with ghosts. Wandering through the streets of this new city, with this pretty woman, he felt like he could take a breath again. It was a feeling he wanted to hold onto.
“So you make a habit of picking up waifs and strays? Or are you making an exception for me?” he asked, making conversation really as his eyes drank in the sights that surrounded them. The route to the loutra gave him his first real look at the sprawling white stone palace that was the Mikaelidas Palati. Silanos gave a low whistle. “Wow. That's...understated”
There was nothing like it in Colchis and he gawped at it a moment longer, before sliding his eyes sideways towards his companion. Likely she had never been there, so he decided not to linger on the subject. The public loutra was admittedly less grand, but Silanos couldn’t really find fault with them as he handed over the coin for a private room and ambled after the slave girl that led them to it, casually taking Eleni’s hand in his own and tugging her along behind him.
The chamber they found themselves in was pleasantly balmy, steam already rising from the water pooled in the sunken bath, a simple bench for one's belongings and drying cloths and robes. Refusing the slaves offer of any further attentions save for bringing some wine, Sil lifted an eyebrow at Eleni as the door closed behind the girl and left them alone.
There was a slight haziness to the air, the fragrance of whatever oils had been poured in the water catching at his throat a little, but Sil was not about to complain about this situation. Using the hand he still held within his own, he tugged Eleni close and let one finger ghost over the fibula at her shoulder. “It's like having a present to open” he observed, and then looked at her, an anticipatory smile lifting his lips. “May I?”

Eleni dismissed his concerns with a wave of her hand. She wasn’t offended - surprised perhaps, but not insulted. Besides, his contrite expression and slight shrug made him far too endearing to wish to scold. The way his face shifted as she asked about second thoughts only sealed the deal in her mind. There was something about him that drew her in, and she was enjoying every moment of it.
“Good. I think I would have been quite disappointed if you had changed your mind. You’re the most fun I’ve had in weeks, and we haven’t even gotten to the good stuff yet,” she teased.
Usually if she said such a thing, it would just be to fluff a man’s ego and keep his attention a little longer. With Silanos though, it was simply the truth - she didn’t need to resort to such tactics. She could just relax and be herself. It was a delightful change of pace really. As far as she could tell, he seemed to feel rather the same. At least she certainly hoped that was the case, though she truly had no reason to doubt it.
“Oh, so you’re a stray now? Somehow I find that a little hard to believe, even if you are far from home,” she said with a laugh. “What can I say, I just couldn’t resist that roguish charm of yours.” She lightly batted a hand against his shoulder. “But really, who could blame me?” She paused a moment as a thought occured to her. “Wait a minute, let’s not forget that you were the one who beckoned me over.”
His eyes shifted to the Mikaelidas Palati and hers followed. “Isn’t it though? You’ll quickly learn that understated is a rarity here. We like to celebrate life by surrounding ourselves with beauty.” She looked back over to the palace that had drawn his attention. “It surely has to be one of the most opulent sights in the city. Though I will say, no matter how many times you see it, it never ceases to be impressive.”
They arrived to their destination shortly after. As her companion reached for her hand to tug her along towards the private rooms with him, she couldn’t help but smile widely, even as a fluttery feeling rose in her chest. Her already obvious enthusiasm for the man whose hand she now held seemed to grow stronger with the simple gesture. Or perhaps it was just the knowledge that they would soon have the privacy to make good on all their flirting.
Eleni could only grin at him as his gaze shifted to her with a quirked eyebrow as the slave exited the room, leaving them truly alone at long last. He tugged her close, hand still holding to hers. “A present... I like that,” she mused softly, a hint of a twinkle in her blue eyes. Somehow, now that they were here, she felt uncharacteristically shy, unsure what to expect from the flirtatious young man before her. Still, she had every faith whatever came to pass would be enjoyable. At his question, she turned her head slightly to press a soft kiss to the back of his hand.
“Please do.”

“Please do.”
“The good stuff huh” Silanos tipped a wink in her direction, and if his pace sped up a little, well that was hardly to be helped. He just really wanted a bath. There was a laugh and half-hearted agreement when she reminded him that he had been the one to invite her to join him, and the young lord was not shy in looking her over when he retorted “How could I not? Look at you”
He certainly was: that golden hair that reminded him of sunlight through tall grass, milky skin that he wanted to see more of. It was almost with reluctance that he tore his gaze away to instead marvel over the city they walked through.
“I *like* it here” he declared, taking a deep breath and spinning so he walking backwards to smile at her. “Maybe I was born to the wrong kingdom. And hey…” he tugged on her hand to draw her in a little closer. “I have something else that never fails to be impressive, no matter how many times you see it” His eyebrows rose and dipped comically and the young lord turned again, snickering at his own joke.
By the time they found themselves alone in the bathing chamber, Silanos’ amusement had faded away, his interest in unwrapping his welcome gift becoming more of a focus. Rapt as she turned her head and pressed her lips to his hand, Sil only nodded before he carefully pulled the pin of the fibula free, releasing Eleni’s hand so he could take a hold of the metal and set both pieces down upon the bench. It didn’t take much more than than a gentle tug upon the gathered fabric to see it fall into a pool at her feet.
Sil smiled slowly as he let his gaze follow it down over the pale gold skin, a small huff of breath escaping at how pleasantly uncomplicated all this had been. She truly was a gift, and Silanos knew when one was to be grateful and not ask questions. He didn’t loiter over ridding himself of his garments, leaving them where they fell and kicking his sandals haphazardly under the bench, and there was no mistaking his growing interest in Eleni and all she offered.
“Come here” he encouraged, reaching out to her. He wanted to touch, and when she stepped into him, his hands were quick to pull her closer, one sliding up her back to tangle in her hair, the other settling at the dip of her waist. His eyes were fixed on hers, the question there before he’d spoken. “You sure you’re not having second thoughts? I’m not gonna lie..you’ll be breaking my heart here”
Or maybe not his heart. But certainly his hopes of having a really nice bath.
