Dear Achilleas
This war waged against the barbarians in the North has dragged on for too long. To say nothing of civility or respite, the days here in these barren wastelands are short, black and frigid, a far cry from even the most rugged mountaintop from Colchis. Still, it seems that all has gone well and good, and by the time you receive this letter, I suspect victory and triumph shall already be forged by my forces, as well as those under the command of others such officers.
In spite of the inevitable glory that will be amassed here, I do confess my head is weary and my hands are tired. I long to be away from this veritable nothingness and back to the pleasant and precious lands of our beloved Mother Greece. My homeland calls to me, and the comfort of old friends and past acquaintanceships is a prize that, at this moment, I would probably treasure more than any medal or spoils of war that I am sure to receive.
And yet, for as much as I wish to return to my hearth and home, I would rather see more of the paradise that the Gods have granted us over the Aegean and see more of Taengea, and possibly even Athenia, before turning back to Magnemea. These days in the North have taught me that life is far too short to be spent locked-up within the confines of one’s base understanding, and though I did occasionaly recall our more…personal moments together, perhaps more significantly, I remembered the fondness by which you spoke of your people’s kingdom whence we were closer still.
To be clear, while I fully intend on visiting the green and pleasant lands of Taengea once my term here is past, it would make me quite happy if you would have me for but a moment. I know how incredibly busy you must be, and I cannot fault you for the demands of your charge. Likewise, and if I may be so bold, I understand that perhaps my presence unsettles you, and that would be the last thing I would like to do. Still, I miss you…sometimes more than I wish to confess...
Whether I see you or not will depend entirely on you. I may wish to see you, but if you truly do not wish the same from me, I will not be upset and simply discover Taengea by my own. The choice is yours. Until we meet once more, I leave you as as I've always had:
Yours Truly
Damocles
