The soft light of the afternoon drifted through the Zacharias' ajar window, giving the room a warm glow. It was a lovely temperate day, if you were a person that liked such things. He found it breezy enough to stave off most sweat but warm enough that he didn't need his uniform chlamys, which was one of his favourite items of clothing. He was not ready for the harsher edge of summer to creep in and he appreciated that he'd been out of the heat for the harshest part of the day, he had Zach to thank for that. His eyes drifted from Zach's hunched figure to the reports that he'd been sorting through for the past hour after being delegated them by the King. He gave a brief glance to the closed door, deciding to step forward and cross the room to his lover. He pressed a hand against Zach's back, a reminder to sit up a little straighter. "You're going to be sore tomorrow if you keep sitting like that." Heron's beard brushed his ear as he leant down to murmur. His dark eyes were soft, bringing both hands up to rest on his lover's shoulders, giving them a gentle rub.
Their brief moment of affection was soon interrupted by a knock on the door, and Heron stood up straight. His hands lingered on his Zach's shoulders, before he turned towards the door. In a few paces he was at the unlatched door, opening it for the servant, Tobias, who bore a small platter. There was more than Zacharias would be able to finish, and Heron quietly thanked Tobias, moving aside so he could enter and set the dish by the lounge chairs. The corners of Heron's eyes crinkled as he observed the food, and if the servant thought his long gaze was odd he said nothing as he slipped out of the room. They usually met up with a family member for lunch, but Heron could imagine that the heat of the day combined with the new workload had changed Zach's plans. "All this for us?" He asked hopefully, taking the stool facing the door so that Zach could sit on the Klinai. He sure it wouldn't be long until Zach's retainers returned to assist him, but they'd have enough time for some lunch.
He picked up a piece of dried apricot, wishing all the while that he could reach across and sit by Zacharias and feed them to him. It wasn't the done thing, of course, and Heron knew it was odd enough for them to be sharing a meal let alone for a respected guard to be hand feeding the prince. Although, a lover could dream... He settled with the barest of smiles as he nibbled on some cheeses and dried fruit.
