There was a part of him that questioned the wisdom of what he was about to do. Surely, Athanasia deserved better than to be used as a means to his own selfish end? Yet, when he thought about Heron and the tender moments they shared in bed only a few hours prior, he could not help but to do as he planned. These whispers of why he had yet to take a wife were not unbeknownst to him. If anything, he felt he heard them more often now than ever before.
It was his duty both Taengea and his house to marry and produce a son. Yet, at the mere thought, he felt only shame and great reluctance. How could he, loving Heron so deeply, take a wife knowing what duties he was to perform for her? And on the other side, how could he take a wife and deny her the security in her status that a child would bring her? He had long accepted the reality that one day soon, he would have to be wed, but he hoped to, selfishly, prolong that time until the very last moment.
He hoped that spending this time with the young Kotas princess might start to change the tune of those rumors, thus, buying him more time to silently attempt to solve his own personal dilemma.
In the meantime, he needed to focus on the task at hand — choosing a steed to ride from the stables.
“You may choose any of them, your Highness,” he said as he approached her side, standing closer than he normally would have. “Might I suggest Elektra?” He gestured towards a tall buckskin mare. “She rides wonderfully and does well with Abraxas.” His personal mount was on the ornery side, though Elektra seemed to hold her own all the same.
Though, if the princess felt otherwise, he added: “There is no rush.”

She had not been in Taengea for very long when Athanasia's more mischievous side started to emerge and caused her to look for things to do. Normally one to bug her brothers, Asia had discovered that they were rather busy that day and not anywhere to be found. It seemed like everyone was busy even as the day was clear and sunny. Whispers reached her, servants talking about Prince Zacharias softly and followed with even softer comments on Heron. Athanasia knew both of them, even liked hanging out with them, reminding her often of her own older brothers. Though less overprotective and coddling, it sometimes seemed.
It was there that she got the idea to see if she could find either of them. Surely they BOTH couldn't be busy as well? Would her luck be that bad?
It didn't take long before she found Zacharias, and much to her enjoyment, he seemed free for the day as she wheedled at him for something to do. Questions of sword lessons, horseback riding, and even charioteering, filled the air as she bounded around and after him as they made their way outside. He was her brother's friend, but Athanasia liked to think he was hers too.
As they made their way to the stable, she listened closely as he made his suggestions on which horse he thought she would prefer, and Asia could not find anything that could be contrary to the selection. The light tan color hinted at possibly glowing under the sunlight, strong legs, and a gentle demeanor that showed as she pressed her nose up against Athanasia's hand. "Please, when it is just us two, please call me Asia. I agree with your choice, though. She is lovely, thank you." Looking over her shoulder at him, Asia gave him a playful grin as she added, "Your royal highness." It was a tease since she just asked him to call her by her own name, but she would still leave that up to Zacharias' discretion.
"Do you think you could teach me how to drive a chariot? How much different is it to just riding a horse?" While Zacharias got his own mount ready, Asia quickly adjusted the reins before she hopped up onto Elektra's back with ease. "Whoa.. it's ok. Shhh.." The beast fidgeted for a moment under her before finally settling and Asia guided her to stand near her companion. "So, where are we going today?"
