The city was settling down now, after the funeral and wedding had taken place. Having personally seen to the way Vasiliadon was now settling down back to their regular day to day life, Irakles had also made it a point to see through his promise that he had given Elise by his brother's gravesite. Like clockwork, everyday after his breaking of fast at his household, Irakles would take a ride through Vasiliadon on his checks, before heading right to the Royal Palati. There, he would go through any outgoing documents and have a chat with the Queen Mother, before heading for a stroll around the Palati to see the everyday comings and goings.
While some may question his presence, more still within the royal palace remembered a time when Irakles had been raised here as the young prince of the second wife to King Aimilios. This was his childhood home, and the old general moved with the ease of one familiar with the place.
Today however, he had a different aim. With the wedding over a week ago by now, he was now eager to make an audience with the now newly minted Queen Olympia. Being Fotios's niece, Irakles had of course known of the young lady's existence, but had never bothered making much of acquaintence, seeing as how she was but a second daughter of a noble house. She had been no one of import.
Until now that is.
Then again, Irakles failed to see how someone who chose to foolish cavort with his nephew, who up till a few weeks ago, had only been a second son, could have much ambition - but he reserved judgement for now.
Upon entrance to the royal palati, Irakles had allowed the servants to take his royal blue himation that covered his dark maroon chiton. Shot with silver threads, it was muted enough to show that the second prince was still in mourning for his brother, but with enough pomp to show everyone his status in the kingdom. "Is all well?" Twas his usual question, to which the servant nodded, and gave him a report on everyone's status as was usual. "Queen Olympia has been allowed to take a stroll today."
Ah, he knew his new niece-in-law had been ordered on bedrest due to her pregnancy. A pregnancy that had thrown more then a simple wrench into Irakles's plans. But no matter. He had things under control. Meena was at work, and Fotios had informed him of the upcoming Senate meeting, as well as arranged for a few senators to have a meal with him at the Mikaelidas household. No matter. Irakles always has a plan.
With a curt nod, the male made his way to the gardens, easily rearranging his features to form one of pleasant surprise as he searched the area, and found his target. "Ah, Your Majesty." he bowed, even if it grated on his teeth to do so. Irakles was never one to give in to his emotions - he knew what he had to do to gain leverage, and if it involved bowing to someone almost thirty years his junior and was thrust into the status of royalty through sheer dumb luck then so be it. He would do it.
Straightening up, he kept a respectful distance from the Leventi girl, the easy, pleasant smile still adorning his lips. "I do hope all is well with you, Your Majesty? I trust your new role is not too taxing, for you and for the babe." his voice held a relaxing timbre, the same one that was the reason why Queen Mother Elise infinitely trusted her brother in law. "Do not hesitate to inform me if you need any assistance. I fear my nephew may be busy at the moment, so if you have any need at all, do summon me."

When Helena had finally relented and allowed her for a stroll, Olympia had been quick to jump on the opportunity. Well, not actually. It had been a very slow struggle to get out of bed and dress herself to be seen properly. With the passage of time her condition had become much more obvious, and it felt as if she had ballooned overnight as the child grew. She dressed simply for her new station, still entirely unaccustomed to it and what it all meant, a basic chiton of deep red draped over her and she held the swell of her stomach protectively as always, a position she found it impossible to truly move away from as if afraid at any moment something might happen.
And with everything that had happened in the city since the chariots...the funeral...the wedding. It felt as if it had all been a whirlwind of terror and pain and upheaval. Even now after things had finally returned to normal she feared that over her shoulder another Creed would appear with a knife to her throat to end what they had started. Guards lingered near her wherever she went, and where before she might have found it obnoxious, now with the baby and Stephanos, she was terrified to be without them. Indeed it was thanks to one of them she became aware of Irakles of Mikaelidas' presence before it shocked her too much.
Smiling at her new uncle, Pia dipped into a curtsy of her own out of habit. She may be queen by name but he had been born royalty and she was still not at all used to the idea of someone of his status deferring to her in any way. It was strange, in a way the man was much like his older brother Zenon, but it couldn't be helped but to admit that he was the far handsomer of the two. The older man rubbed Stephanos the wrong way, but as far as she could see it was a childish prejudice. Irakles had been so far nothing but helpful, and from what she could glean his council was wise and to be listened to.
"No, I find I am fortunate in that most of the burden falls upon Stephanos. We're simply thrilled to be out of bed I think. He hasn't stopped dancing since we stepped outside."
Pia smiled down at her bump, the little one inside still for once as if aware that this was a moment that was not to be interrupted. How polite of him.
"I must thank you though, both for your offer and all of your advice. I know that the new king is....hesitant. But given everything that has happened I imagine he will slowly begin to heal and return to his usual self. Especially with your guidance."

When the Queen dipped into her curtsy, Irakles was quick to dart forward and stop her from going any lower. She was pregnant and with child, and it would do good for Irakles to be seen as overtly concerned. So, as any seasoned actor would do, he was quick to hold her by her shoulders, waving the guards away and giving a kindly smile at her while shaking his head.
"Please, there is no need to bow on ceremony, Lady Olympia. Tis your babe I am concerned of." he murmured, taking a step away again once she was stable and standing again. Her affection for her unborn babe was obvious from the way she cradled her bump to the way she glanced down and smiled at it. A baby that was the biggest wrench in his plans. If luck was on his side, it would be a girl, and he would have even more ammo on his plate. But time would tell. For now, his plans did not hinge on the gender of the future heir - he was not silly enough to place plans on something so easily changed. "He must be overjoyed - staying inside can be stifling. I will ensure our most well trained guards are always by your side, Lady Olympia. You should have no fear."
This was Irakles's new protocol now - be seen and be heard. This was the best way in which to garner even more favor, attention and support for his upcoming plans in the Senate meeting. And Irakles knew he needed as much as he can to win their favor.
Shaking his head to dismiss Olympia's apology, he offered a hand to the young Queen, and proceeded to escort her on her stroll, ever the cautious uncle displayed as his demeanour. "There no thanks necessary, your Hignness. He is my nephew, and I wish for nothing more then to ease his station." The smile hid his intentions - he knew Stephanos would have no easy time. with Irakles approving all the documents and signed edicts, it would only firm his position as the trustworthy one over his nephew. And he did it all because his sister in law had asked it of him.
The perfect cover.
"Everyone is worried for Stephanos in his new station. But I am concerned for your health and safety as well. Physical health aside... are you well in other ways? Have you had a chance to be with your family? I know of the closeness you have with your sisters. If you would like,I can arrange for them to visit you in the palace, since I heard your midwife has restricted you to bedrest. Would you enjoy that, Your Highness?"

As the prince rushed forward to halt her show of respect and help her upright once more, Pia gave a smile of gratitude and for a moment her hand braced against his shoulder as she gained her balance once more. If there was anything most frustrating about her desire to move about while with child it was the fact that all of a sudden her balance and entire carriage was thrown off as the little one grew seemingly daily.
"Thank you, my lord. I'm sure you recall how difficult it was for your lady on occasion, trying to agree on which direction you're going between the two is a challenge."
She was careful to say his lady, not his wife. She was not so entirely ignorant as to discount the mistress that it was said he was so fond of. Certainly in years to come no doubt she would learn the value of a husband who had a mistress to entertain him, and with Stephanos' reputation and first hand activities she had no doubt she would need to learn to share him and be as graceful about it as she could manage. The pang of jealousy that line of thinking attracted was no good for the moment though, and she pushed it aside to return her full attentions to the second prince.
Taking his offered hand to assist her ever slowing and more lumbering movements, she kept one hand resting still over her prize and took deep lungfuls of the fresh garden air, relaxing ever more as they strolled through. Everything he said made sense, and she once again gave him a smile of gratitude. It couldn't be easy, handing the reins to a son who was not meant to rule when he had been there the whole time, but at the very least his surface show of how he was handling things was commendable.
"With you to guide him I am sure Stephanos will be alright. I hope you will be with us for many years to come, should the worst happen I would be most comfortable with you as regent. A steady hand to guide us all is worth its weight in gold."
When in doubt, it was always best to keep the largest of threats appeased. If anyone truly had anything to gain from the death of Stephanos it was the man who held her hand right now. She just had to do and say all she could to ensure that whatever happened, he was on her side and could protect her child. The mention of her sisters brought a joy to her eyes and she smiled broadly at Irakles once more.
"I would love a visit from my sisters. The princesses are sweet enough to visit and sit with me, but Selene has been across the sea in Athenia and now Colchis, and with Theodora marrying your son I hope she will be near more often. Will you all not come stay in the palace? Family should stay together, don't you think?"

He dipped his head slowly, but left Olympia's comment on pregnancy unanswered. It had been fifteen years since Sara had been born afterall, and Irakles had come very close to forgetting how it was when Meena had been pregnant with his youngest. Then again, it wasn't as if he was the most attentive of husbands or lover. While either Myrto or Meena had been pregnant, Irakles had ensured there were extra servants on hand to attend to them at all times... but he was not the most present. To Irakles, duty comes first, and a pregnant wife would not deter that.
But if the Queen wanted to believe that he had been an attentive husband... well who was he to deny that?
Managing a non-committal smile, the male paced his steps with Olympia, ensuring it was slow and even and even feigning a smile as he watched the Queen enjoy the lungfuls of fresh air, as opposed to stale ones in her room. The more the guards and servants saw him doting on the new addition to the royal palace, the better.
Allowing his easy smile as a response to her assurance for Stephanos, while apart of him swelled with the pride he often had as a leading and decorated general and second prince of the kingdom. He had always been known to be responsible, eager to garner glory for their kingdom. Irakles had been trained for all intents and purposes to inherit a kingdom - yet he had to watch for years as Zenon led the kingdom in a way Irakles believed to be improper.
But his time will come. And very soon.
Nodding when he saw the joy that it brought to Olympia at mention of her sisters, he responded with a quick tone. "I have news that the Lady Selene would return very soon, and Lady Theodora has been kept quite busy on marriage preparations with both my sons. However, I'll inform the palace that all Leventi girls will be allowed free access to the palace and your chambers. You need only to send a missive and invite them over, and they will be given the utmost best treatment, you have my word of it, Your Highness."
It was his tone of firm gentility that had always managed to earn Irakles loyalty and trust. And he knew it, and used it to his best advantage. As they reached a bend, Irakles made sure to slow down and placed a cautionary hand in front as a precaution should any trip happen, whilst they continued their stroll. "But I have to deny the invitation to stay in the palace, Lady Olympia." he continued, accompanied with a respectful dip of his head."I have much to deal with in the Mikaelidas household, and I fear Stephanos may not enjoy my being here." The male feigned a hurt look.
"He has not taken to the position well. I'm afraid the poor boy is still suffering the after effects of the shock. I do not blame him, he lost both his father and brother in one fell swoop." the tone he used was sufficiently of discomfort, down to his very body language. "I'm sure he will recover with time. But till then, I will be here everyday, as the Queen Mother has instructed me. Do not worry, Your Highness. I will ensure no harm will come to family."
With a comforting pat on her hand, their stroll was interuptted when a sudden retainer ran up and leaned up to whisper in Irakles's ear. The words had him knitting his brows, as if they were concerning, before the elder male turned and gave a respectful bow from his waist at Olympia, accompanied with an easy smile."I'm afraid I have to take my leave, Your Highness. There appears to be some disturbances in my House that I have to return to deal with. I wish you the best, and please - if there is any problem at all, do not hesitate to contact me, dear Lady Olympia. I only wish the smoothest for you in your new position." With another last bow, Irakles turned and hurried away from the gardens.
