Zoe happily hummed to herself, making a lavender stroke on the canvas. The paints were vibrant, beautiful. While it wasn't blood, paint was still an alright medium to test her artistic skills with. The young woman was happy that her cousin had purchased her paper-like canvases and paints of all colors, not just red. It was a safer way for her to practice her artistic expression, but not as thrilling. Looking at her palette, she tilted her head to the side, wondering which color would blend best with the lilac she was making. She knit her brow together, dabbing a bit of white and mixing it with a bit of her lavender paint. Hmm... Not quite. She dabbed a bit of red and in doing so, her hand tensed on the paintbrush. Red. The color of the liquid of life. Her eyes fixated on the color of paint. After a solid second she exhaled, it was only paint. She dabbed a bit of the beautiful crimson into her mix, swirling the bristles in it. Yes... This was the perfect shade of violet. She then moved to add it to the canvas, blending it into where it belonged.
Beaming, she took a step back from her easel, taking the whole painting in. It was a close up of a lilac in a grassy meadow. It was one of her best works, not the best, but one of the better ones that she could do without a human canvas. She quickly put her brushes on the nearby table her cousin allowed her to place them on and ran out the room, her face, arms, and chiton covered in paint of all colors. Down the hall she picked up speed, grinning as she called out, "Iris! Iris!" As she ran into the living area, she giggled with joy. She was usually timid, but being an artist, it was difficult to not share her work with her cousin who she felt was like a sister to her. After all, it was Iris that had taught her how to hunt.
Spotting the person she was looking for, she walked up to her, doe-eyed and a smile plastered on her face, "Iris! I made you something! I hope you love it! Come on! Follow me!" She took her cousin's hand in a rush and picked up the pace, leading her down the hall. "Okay, okay. Close your eyes! I need it to be a surprise!" She waited for Iris to follow her orders before she opened the door and led her inside. "Okay! Open them!" She ran to stand next to her painting, looking at her cousin's face to see what she thought of it. "Surprise! I painted this for you!"

There was an ache in Iris’ head that told her she had spent entirely too much time staring at parchments and ledgers. At missives and letters between herself, Persephone, and Alehandros. There was always work to be done, but Iris knew that even barons needed breaks. Needed time where they were simply people and no one was dependent on them. Thus, Iris had stretched out on one of the lounges in the living area, her eyes closed as she dozed in the sunlight that passed through the windows.
Even then, she kept keen awareness of the world around her. There were others in the house today and it was this awareness that kept Iris from startling as Zoe ran into the room shouting her name. Eyes opening slowly, she eyed the girl with a soft smile, pushing herself into an upwards sitting position. Immediately, trained eyes noted the paint on Zoe’s skin and clothes and the smile on her features. Nothing was troubling her, then, Iris noted with keen efficiency.
A smile gracing her lips, she rose to her feet rather easily. “I’m sure that I’ll love it, Zoe,” she said quietly, letting her cousin lead her through the halls. Her fingers were soft against Iris’, something that she had always been keenly aware of. Sweet and even-tempered, Iris supposed that it would soon be time to find Zoe a good match. A little maturity and the young woman would make a wonderful mother.
When Zoe asked her to close her eyes, she obeyed, stepping carefully into the room. Opening her eyes, a smile spread across her features. Flowers had always had a special place in her heart, being one of Aetaea’s exports. Stepping closer to the painting, she observed it in silence for a few moments, her smile only growing as she got closer to see the detail. “It’s beautiful, Zoe,” she said gently, knowing the paint was wet. Even then, her fingers drifted above the canvas, never touching it.
“Thank you,” she said sweetly, looking up at her cousin. Approaching, she pulled the girl into a hug, pressing her lips to the top of Zoe’s head. “I love it,” she hummed gently, “When its dry, I’ll have it hung in my study… so long as you don’t mind others seeing it.”
