The sun was shining brightly against the blue sky. Not a cloud was to be seen. It was a perfect day to go sunbath as well as water bathing in a hot spring. Sliding out of his clothes and into the scalding hot water, Silanos let out a contented sigh and closed his eyes. He raked a hand through his dark brown hair pushing it away from his face. It had been weeks since he had a decent bath. The water felt great against his skin, and he was aching from his most recent activities. *wink wink nudge nudge* The woman, holy Aphrodite, he had been with, really had a firm grip.
Life had been excellent so far without any signs of his older brother anywhere. Tim was probably too busy running the place to be bothered with looking for an errant little bastard like him. He hadn't heard much from his mother either, making his thoughts move towards darker paths. Shaking his head a little, Sil jerked himself out of any of the dark thoughts. He wasn't here to think about family matters right now, he was here to relax and only relax. Me time, all me time. Leaning back, he hummed a little underneath his breath. The tune that he was humming to grew louder as he became confident that no one was listening. Since the springs were deserted right now, he did not need to worry about audiences. Not that he was afraid of people hearing him sing. He had a decent voice.
His voice came to an abrupt stop when he heard quite chattering as a few other people went into the area he was at. Oh, it looks like his alone time had come to an end already. Damn, well it was great while it lasted. Opening his eyes, Sil looked towards the offending intruders. Good just civilians. No one too famous or dangerous, he would let them be for the time being. He wasn't going to make a big deal out of something insignificant as this. The young man didn't need a black eye or a broken nose at the moment. Closing his eyes once more, he sank further down into the hot sulfur water. If they let him be, he would do the same.

Two years on, Timaeus still felt as if he was little more than an imposter whenever he frequented the Colchian Senate. He struggled to find his place among the throngs of older men or younger heirs filling in for their aging fathers. He was young and inexperienced, having been told from a young to not worry himself with things such as rhetoric or the art of a business deal. Instead, whenever Nicomedes had been whisked away into some stuffy meeting room for lessons, someone else put a sword in Timaeus's hand and sent him outside. He was the spare. He had always been the extra son, the one they imagined would find his glory on the battlefield, not in the Senate House. He had always been the boy who would never be the Baron.
And yet here he was, all the same.
That morning had been a frustrating one for the twenty-four-year-old. He had been stuck in meeting after excruciating meeting all covering the same subject; how the kingdom was going to recover from the Wrath of Boreas. Or, if you wanted to be more precise, how many of the barons were going to pay for the recovery efforts. That was the most insufferable part for the young lord. All this pomp and circumstance only to walk out with the same conclusion you entered with; raise the taxes upon the common folk and have them pay for the rebuilding of their city. All these old men knew that and hell, half of them would have still done so if the Wrath had missed the isles entirely.
As if Timaeus could even dream of getting away with something like that.
Eubocris held no love for the Valaoritis and they made no point in hiding it. They thought the whole family was a group of deceitful traitors based on the lies spread by an old crone and her senile uncle several generations ago. They held onto the falsehoods in order to justify their moans and complaints about having their coins leave their pockets and be sent up the mountain to a man who, they believed, murdered his own brother for power. They hated Timaeus. They hated what he stood for and everything he did. There was no way he could raise their taxes and expect the people to remain peaceful in such a troubling time. But then again, why would these old leaders care about the situation of the Kotas family's newest pet hound?
Needless today, by the time the afternoon sun was shining brightly on the Colchian streets, Timaeus had had enough of this misguided foolerly. There was nothing to for him to take away from today, so it was easier to take his leave.
Not too eager to return to the upper levels just yet and being far too angry to fully enjoy any other activities the city offered, the baron decided to take a moment to go relax in the hot springs. This was an ideal time to do it too as he knew that its most frequent patrons during this hour were too busy pointlessly arguing deep within the city.
As he rode through the streets and very quickly arrived at his destination, he was pleased to see that he was correct in his assumption that the place would be deserted save for a group of citizens in the foyer and the faint shape of another patron in the waters beyond. The building was quiet, making it ideal for the Baron to take a few moments here to relax before he would need to return to his rented manor in the upper levels and devise a realistic solution to paying for his province's recovery efforts.
Gently pushing past the group, the Baro came to the water's edge and stripped down, ignoring the other person, as he had had enough human contact for one day, before stepping into the water himself. Timaeus was far enough away to give the other patron their distance and privacy and he could feel the relaxation instantly pull the troubles of the morning from him and casting them off into waters, far away from him. Breathing an audible sigh of relief, he closed his eyes as he settled in, letting his thoughts drift from all the things he was responsible for and yet didn't wish to discuss.
Until he felt a pair of eyes watching him.
He didn't know what had alerted him exactly, there was just a sense of overall uneasiness in the air as he lazily opened one eye to glance at the other man he had ignored earlier. All sense of relaxing bliss disappeared as he saw that mop of dark hair and startlingly familiar blue eyes. Ones that looked uncannily like his own.
Instantly alert, his mouth dropped in shock. "Silanos?" He said almost in disbelief as he took in the sight of his younger brother, a boy he hadn't seen in nearly two years, having run off to avoid the demons that now seemingly plagued the manor house. Not that his older brother blamed him, after all, he had done the same thing when he was younger, but it was rather startling to see Sil leave right when the family needed to be together the most. Clearly still in shock that he would run into his little brother, here of all places, he sputtered out without thinking, "Is that really you?"
Though then again, these boys should have known better than anyone that fate works in mysterious ways. Today it just happened to bring the two them back together in the most unexpected way.

It seems rather funny to be sitting in a vat of hot weather in the middle of the summer. But Sil didn't care one bit. It felt nice not doing anything and just relaxing. As he soaked, he opened his eyes once more and focused on the man who had come in after the noisy group who was still chattering away. Something about him made the young man feel a little uneasy. He didn't realize he had been starting rather hard at the man until he had opened one of his own eyes to look back at him. As soon as their eyes connected, Sil felt his whole body stiffen in utter surprise. It only took that one look for him to recognize who it was. He knew that man unfortunately very well, and it was the same man he had been trying to avoid for the past few years. Ah, woe was him to have been found by his brother.
Hearing his name fall from Timeaus mouth, Sil had two decisions he could make at this point. One: he could pretend that he didn't know who the man was and just completely ignore him, or two: he could acknowledge Tim and make small talk with him before finding some way to escape and not get caught. The young man decided to go with the second path. It would be much more comfortable and knowing Tim; his brother would probably just keep on bugging him until he answered him. There was no point in making this harder or more awkward for either of them.
With a sigh, Sil gave his older and only brother a sheepish smile and a half-hearted wave of his hand. "No, this is just a ghost." He muttered sarcastically before letting out another sigh. This time with resignation in it. "Alright yes. Hello brother. It really is me. Fancy seeing you here." He said in a somewhat stiff tone. He hadn't seen Timaeus for a while, so it felt a little weird finally talking to him face to face. He usually sent letters, short ones, but nevertheless, letters home to him as well as his mother and cousin. He shifted in hot water, the temperature suddenly much warmer than it had been minutes ago.

His nostrils flared at how indifferent Silanos seemed to be for finally reuniting with his brother after just disappearing for two years. Not that the elder Valaoritis had been expecting a tearful reunion either. He was already painfully aware that would never happen, but he still had expected something else. Joy? Regret? Anger? He didn’t know what it was, but it sure as hell wasn’t the sarcasm or resignation Sil was showing him at this moment. Perhaps his harsh judgment it was a form of bitter jealousy that Silanos had the option to leave and Timaeus didn’t.
Or at least he couldn’t anymore.
Without realizing it, Timaeus’s mind drifted back to the day where he had come home unexpectedly after being gone for four years. Granted, that day was wildly different. First off, Tim had actually gone home…. Or at least he went to their household in Midas where he had found Nicomedes dealing with the responsibilities their father had left him on his death. That reunion had been a tearful one, especially for Timaeus since he had no idea the trauma his family had faced during those short four years. Could this be why the air was so tense in the bathhouse? Were they just waiting for the other to reveal some sort of life-altering news?
Desperately to clear the air and find some sort of emotion in his brother, Timaeus said, “Sil… Where were you? What happened?” It was a plea for information from the brother who had disappeared. Of course, the young lord wrote, but it was never enough for Timaeus to send for him to come home, but now it seemed like the other Valaoritis had been here in Midas the whole time and Timaeus didn’t want to even touch the tumultuous feelings that surrounded that bit of information.
There was a moment of awkward silence that coated the room just as heavily as the steam from the water that did nothing to relax Tim’s nerves. Silanos had never been the most forthcoming of the family and his older brother doubted that he would recount two years at the drop of a hat. After all, they came from a family that didn’t have the best reputation when it came to talking about issues. They were more of a spill your guts when you’re drunk and then forget it ever happened kind of family. Trying to get either lad to open up was like trying to Ares walk away from a fight.
It just wasn’t going to happen.
“You know what--” Tim started to say as he moved past the question he’d probably never get the answer to, “Forget about it. Forget what happened.” That would just be the easier thing to do, after all. Though, if Sil was anything like Tim and had the same ever-constant longing to explore more than just what was in Colchis, he doubted they would ever truly forget about it.
But they had to start somewhere right?
“Sil,” Tim said carefully, looking his baby brother right in the eye as he spoke, “Please…. Just come home. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been… we need you.” Saying that one simple request took so much strength from Tim to not let his voice break. As jealous as Tim was, he still missed his brother and the family needed to heal from their losses. They couldn’t do that if they weren’t all together and for the longest time, Silanos had been that missing piece.
“Please Sil.”
