The sun's rays seem to cast themselves over everything in their path. Ione glanced out the window of her workroom, curious as to how long she'd been working. The woman's mornings were always early, before the sun rose into the sky. Orders were to be completed in a timely manner and that left little time for the young woman to curl further under her blankets. Hair braided back in one single, simple braid, Ione stole her gaze away from her window, focusing once more on the delicate jewelry work on her table.
She'd become all but numb to the tiny burns of molten metal on her skin. Any high born woman would be disdained to see the number of scars on their fingers. Ione simply saw her successes in the past few years. All of these scars meant that her works were being purchased. They meant that yet another individual had seen what she could do and had given her an opportunity.
Ione was not one to forego opportunities. Especially when they could make her life better, easier. It didn't matter that her parents would have given her everything and never required her to work her entire life, Ione had never been able to see herself settled down with nothing to occupy her.
It was her mother that had broken her concentration, stepping down into the workshop with gentle footsteps. Hands had settled on Ione's shoulders as she leaned over to press a delicate kiss to her daughter's forehead. "My love," her mother purred gently, delicate fingers tucking a stray lock of hair into her braid. "Your father wanted me to tell you that your jewels have arrived," she murmured.
The young woman smiled, turning in her chair to look up at her mother. "Thank you, momma," she said quietly, setting her jewelry working tools down on the bench and rising to her feet. "I'll fetch them quickly, then," Ione commented, following the elder woman as they both stepped from the room. Slipping up stone steps onto the main level of the home, Ione wandered toward the door, grasping the handle before she paused at her mother's question.
"Would you like me to come with you?" she asked softly, giving a small smile.
Ione only shook her head, "I shouldn't be long." And then she was out the door of the manor, smiling quietly at her father riding in on one of their horses. He gave her a loving nod as she padded over to her own stallion that had been tied off to a post earlier in the morning in preparation for her to go into the town. Mounting her horse, she situated herself quickly, happy to get moving.
The skies were bright and clear and Ione could hear the crashing of waves against the docks of Oreboea. The very docks she had been born upon. The thought always made her flush with embarrassment. Impatient, indeed. Clicking her tongue lightly, she guided her horse into the town, stopping before one of the many stalls of the market. Dismounting with ease, she brushed her hands along her himation as she approached the merchant.
She was thankful that he had her supplies already prepared for her. The exchange of money was quick and then Ione was turning back to her stallion. She found pause, however, noting a presence a little too close for comfort. Brow furrowed, her steps carried her forward, her voice meek. "Excuse me, sir?" she questioned quietly. "My horse..." Ione murmured nervously, stopping herself before she could continue her statement.

It had taken mere days from the time he had been cleared to walk again for Zanon to arrange a trip out to Oreboa. He had been away from his barony for so long, first at war and then wounded in bed, he wouldn’t have been shocked to find that most of his people didn’t recognize him any longer. Certainly the people were not accustomed to see the second prince limping along with a cane instead of striding along confidently. At twenty five he was very nearly a cripple and he hated every minute of it. It was why he forced himself to walk through the streets, strengthening and working through the kinks of this new structure of his body. The physician had seemed hopeful he would be able to walk without the assistance of a cane, but Zanon was determined to lose the support as quickly as he could.
His second day in Oreboa saw him in the city instead of his manor, wandering with a few guards at a slow pace behind him just in case. It had been a precaution his mother had insisted upon and he had to grudgingly admit that she was right. He couldn’t properly defend himself or others if they were attacked, not in this state, and the guards were familiar companions so it felt more as if they were friends wandering together than the prince being babysat by soldiers. As they went he stopped to speak with several vendors, touching base with them and showing that he was still strong and healthy, still alive in spite of what they might have heard or thought. He would not let them think him weak.
A creature caught his eye as he moved, a fine stallion that seemed out of place in this part of the market. Frowning slightly, he stepped toward it and stroked the beast’s neck, smirking as it nudged his uninjured hip where he had a small pouch of leaves that would be smoked later. ”I don’t think you’d much care for that friend.” His voice was soft as he allowed the horse to continue its exploration and sniffing, leaning heavily on his cane as he continued to do his own inspection. Whoever owned this one had a fine eye for horses and he had a mind to speak with them about it, this was nearly fine enough to have been a Leventi import, or perhaps a half breed.
The soft voice of a woman drew his attention and he turned to face her with a polite expression that quickly turned into something else before he got it back to a polite calm. She was beautiful, in a soft sort of way that was the opposite of his wife. Her light brown locks looked soft as the curls fell about her shoulders, and her eyes and skin while pale like Evras’ held a sort of pink glow that made her seem both innocent and entirely ripe with possible pleasures. The second prince turned properly and bowed as best he could with his cane at his side, smiling warmly as he spoke.
”Forgive me, my lady. I was intrigued by this beauty, he is yours?”

Ione felt herself freeze and her breath catch just slightly in her throat when the man turned more to face her. He was on a cane and he favored one side. But the way that he looked at her, even for just the most fleeting of moments...
He was stunningly attractive.
The young woman swallowed hard, clutching her parcel of gemstones closer to her chest. She wasn't sure how she should have felt about that expression, but it made her burn in a way that she was entirely unsure about. Her steed seemed to like him, however, because he lifted his head, snuffing into Zanon's hair as if he hadn't a single care in the world. But the man was petting him. That was always enough for the horse to spot a new friend.
"I... yes," Ione said shyly, her cheeks flushing slightly as she approached the man and her horse. She found herself settling beside Zanon, her gaze lifting into the face of her steed, "He is mine. A gift from my father a few years ago," she added, unsure if it was truly necessary. "But he likes everyone and anyone, especially if you stroke his neck or his ears," her voice remained soft, unable to find the confidence she truly needed in this situation.
"He's a right-" Ione paused, refraining from speaking the filth that was likely to spill from her lips about her horse being somewhat of a whore for attention. It was improper and the young lady could already hear her mother scolding her for such a slip-up. For not taking more care in what she spoke to people she truly didn't know.
Ione cleared her throat easily, lifting the parcel up to slip into the bag of her saddle. Her curls caught the wind just slightly, sending them cascading over her other shoulder. Delicate fingers pushed the parcel further into the bag before she settled easily onto steady feet. "My name is Ione, sir," she greeted softly, giving a quiet, reserved smile. "What may I call the man who is so taken with my steed?"
