Dysmas smiled upon hearing the soft contented sighs at his kisses and touch. Her eyes had fluttered shut again, even as she plainly led to him regarding their latest child’s activity habits. Dysmas wished she would just be honest with him, but he knew she just didn’t want to burden him with worry. He couldn’t help it, though. He always worried for her and their children. And it was obvious she was uncomfortable and hadn’t had much sleep.
This was made even more apparent when she shifted her position in the bed so he could gaze upon her face -- the darkness under her eyes was the telltale sign of an unrestful night. She tried to press herself flush against him as best she could, but there was kind of a rather large baby bump between them.
Her lips gave his collar bone a light peck as she asked how he had slept. “Mmm.” a rumble sounded deep in his throat, “I had that same dream again about the day we decided to get married. This time we rode away on Thyella -- she was a pegasus.”
It was quite the odd dream, he supposed. He couldn’t help the tender smile at his wife’s statement. Their legs were locked together; he had her trapped. So Dysmas did what any sensible husband would do upon hearing such a statement: he rubbed the scruff of his unshaven face over her face affectionately, kissing her nose in the process.
He quite clearly hadn’t expected to get pinched in the calf, the action causing him to give an unexpected yelp in surprise. It was, of course, followed-up with a devilish grin and chuckling.

The room in these early hours of the morning seemed a haven of peace and quiet for the two. Evangelina might not have been capable of pressing her entire body against him but it didn’t stop her from attempting it nonetheless. He was right, she didn’t want to burden him with the tribulations of pregnancy. Anything worth having was worth working for… the products of their love made all of this worth enduring several times over.
It was a reward hearing his deep, rumble. Her mouth still on his collarbone paused as he mentioned the dream. Tilting her head back a little, she looked at his face as the room was lit up enough from the morning to just be able to see clearly though not brightly.
“Say that again?” She chuckled, disbelief tinting her tone. “Thyella was a pegasus?” She might have been once but the now aging mare spent more time with their kids crawling over then contemplating flying off. Blinking her sleepy eyes, she settled her head softly on her pillow and stared at him, lost for a moment of thought. Reaching out she brushed a lock of hair away from his face and cupped his chin. “I love you twice as much today as I did that day.” Her gaze dropped to his mouth and she smiled raising them back to those blue eyes of his, “Even if you robbed me a getaway on a pegasus.” Leaning forward, she pressed her mouth to his. It wasn’t a heated kiss, but it was comfortable and full of love. Before she laid her head back against the pillow and spoke about this being the best way to wake up.
Dysmas’ face came forward scraping against hers and she tried to pull away laughing. He kissed her nose. “Ugh… Dysmas…” She laughed, one leg trapped between his and the other hitched over his hip. Pinching his calf just enough to cause a bit of shock.
He yelped and she laughed, reaching over with her index finger she poked him a couple of times in the stomach in reply to his devilish grin. It was that exact grin that had landed her pregnant… several times. Shoving him backward, she straddled him his hips. “You, sir…. Are very mean to me!” She smiled wickedly down at him...
She’d been about to initiate something when the patter of four little feet came, and the bedroom door swung open. Evangelina only got a glimpse of the four-year-old twins before ducked under the covers in.
“Father… Is today the day that you promised we were going to get our wood swords?” The first twin asked while the second, quieter twin with far too perceptive eyes glanced from the covers that his mother hid under to where his father lay. He narrowed his eyes. “Whatcha doing?” He asked…
The covers next to Dysmas started to shake, and if Dysmas glanced down he’d seen his wife peeking out from under the cover. Her hand over her mouth stifling as much of the laughter as she could.

“And relieved I am to hear it!” he snickered, accepting her kiss easily and only breaking apart to let her know, “I love you. So much.”
No words in their language could truly express just how much. Their morning often were like this, poking fun at one another and paying around in bed until they were unceremoniously interrupted by either their children or their servants looking to get them to start their day.
“I’m the only one that gets to be mean to you, I have to take advantage of that somehow!” he half-teased her. No one would ever get away with being any variation of mean to Evie on his watch.
No sooner had he issued his playful joke did the door open and his wife quickly sank back under the covers to keep things modest for the children’s presence. Dysmas perked a brow at the pair of impatient boys. He couldn’t resist their excited faces. “Yes, yes. As soon as I’m out of bed, alright boys?” Being Dad meant being Dad even at the crack of dawn, “Why don’t you have Miss Byrony get you something to eat and when you’re finished we’ll go practice.”
He rubbed his face, tiredly, snuggling himself closer to his wife and hoping his kids had enough sense to know when Mommy and Daddy just wanted to be undisturbed. They had no such boundaries though, that was abundantly clear when the second one asked what they were up to and the both proceeded to climb on top of the covers to be closer to their parents.
“Hey, hey, watch out for your mother!” Dysmas cautioned sternly, not wanting the duo of four year olds jumping on the pregnant lady.

aying under the blanket, Evie could barely control her giggles. After almost a decade of marriage, what traces of modesty she’d had, had vanished. Except where her kids were concerned. The mother of three boys, a girl, and a baby on the way needed to be conscientious. She’d been telling Dysmas they needed a lock on the door… but somehow it kept getting moved further and further and further down the line.
Maybe after this morning, he’d realize just how important that bedroom door lock really was.
Her smile widened at his reply to the twins. How had she lucked out? What had she ever done to end up so perfectly content with her lot in life? Dysmas had given her the world, his world. Which, had turned out to be the sort of world Evie wanted to exist in.
His answer wasn’t going to be enough for the boys. They were too much like her. That was probably Dysmas’ curse in all of this… while the boys did look a great deal more like him with their large blue eyes. They acted more like her. Which both amused and terrified her. Just last week the twins had in fact been caught bringing frogs to dinner with them. There had to have been at least ten of them loose jumping around the dining area and considering her inability to pick things up or see her feet it had turned into complete chaos. The household slaves running around trying to catch the frogs, Evie attempting to catch them as best she could, laughing boys, a squealing daughter, and Dysmas.
Her hand moved under the cover to pinch him on the thigh. There was not a thing he could do about that right now… not with the boys in there.
Maybe she’d spoke too soon, as one of the twins hopped on the bed shaking it enough that Evie suddenly found herself clinging to the bedsheets for dear life. She heard him warn the boys, but it wouldn’t work. Let’s be real, Dysmas might have big and scary to most people but not to his family. She drew the line with almost being wiped out of the bed by the twins. Her head popped out from under the covers, as she clung to them around her.
Glaring at the boys, “What did your father say?” It was forceful enough to stop the boys in their tracks in surprise. “There will be no sword playing today unless you eat your breakfast… and I mean all of it.” The boys looked at one another and inched off the bed. Evie didn’t break contact. When you had four kids, you quickly learned that not only did they outnumber you… but they could smell fear.
As the boys, with their now more reserved demeanor, made their retreat. She called to them, “Close the door… Thank you.” She slanted a look at her husband she raised an eyebrow. “They are going to eat you for lunch with their wooden swords.”

It amazed him that with just a simple look and a few harsh warnings the children (mostly) submitted. Their eldest child was pretty good about listening to Dysmas, but the younger ones seemed to be a bit more willful.
He was aware that the lesson in swordsmanship scheduled today was quickly going to devolve into the boys whacking him like a pinata and chasing him around the courtyard. He blamed their, what was sure to be, unruly behavior with the wooden swords on their Aunt Thalia and Uncle Lukos for filling their heads with ridiculous stories of pirates, swashbuckling, and treasure.
“You need to teach me that trick or we’re never getting through their teenage years” he joked, rolling over to cuddle her for just awhile longer before the day officially began.

Reaching over, she pulled his arm around her and settled into the curves of his body. Resting head on his shoulder, she smiled and closed her eyes blissfully. She flexed her foot against his legs first up and then down in a light stroke.
A throaty chuckle escaped at his joke.
“And what do I get in return for sharing my secrets with you…, husband dearest.” She teased back. Evie’s dark eyes danced in amusement. Pursuing her lips in feigned contemplation. “It’s a very expensive secret you see, you have to make payments.”
Giving him a look from beneath her lashes, “Besides if you think the boys are going to be rough on you, what do you think being the father of a teenage girl is going to be like.” She bit her lip impishly then added, “She’ll bat those big blue eyes of yours at a boy and you, Lukos, and Tino shall start a brawl, no?”

His smile at her teasing was soft. He could feel the gentle brush-like movements of her foot on his leg. Dysmas settled into the new position easily, his arm wrapped around her figure, and looking into her dark eyes. “My Love, whatever is your heart’s desire shall be yours, you need only ask.”
Dysmas couldn’t imagine what she would ask for as payment for such a secret, but whatever it was she would have it -- not for an exchange, but simply because it was something she wanted. Dysmas only needed to know what it was and she could consider it as good as hers.
The lord frowned at the idea of his -- currently -- only daughter batting her baby blues in any young man’s direction. He was not as worried about his daughter’s future suitors as, perhaps, he should have been. Dysmas had faith that he and Evie could teach her how to tow the line between duty and love. Sometimes one was more important than the other, but when they didn’t overlap, a person had to be conscientious of what they were willing to sacrifice to be with whom they chose.
He and Evie were likely one of the few love stories that turned out alright in the end despite scandal and broken arrangements, but many were not as lucky as they had been. Dysmas only wanted the best for his daughter. He hoped when the time came that she would consider her choice of suitor with wisdom.
“My daughter can bat her eyes at whomever she wants, I’m not concerned about her,” He let out a deep exhale of breath, “it’s the young men vying for her attention I worry about.”

“My daughter can bat her eyes at whomever she wants, I’m not concerned about her,” He let out a deep exhale of breath, “it’s the young men vying for her attention I worry about.”
Sometimes one was more important than the other, but when they didn’t overlap, a person had to be conscientious of what they were willing to sacrifice to be with whom they chose.

e pulled her into his arms, hugging her against him. There was such a earnestness to his reply. Possibly it was her pregnancy hormones or maybe it was the tenderness he continued to show her but it was enough to make her eyes mist up a little.
“My heart’s desire…” She said softly, tilting her head a little meet his gaze. Reaching up she touched his face, brushing her fingers against his cheek. “For so long now, there has only been one desire in my heart.” Shifting a little so that she could look at him better, she smiled softly. “You.”
He’d been her desire for so long, she could never get enough of him. Not in a thousand years. Her thumb brushed across his lips and she sighed blissfully. “You are all I’ve ever desired, totally, completely…. Wholeheartedly, my darling.”
“You are the one I want.” Shifting again, she straddled his hip and her gaze warmed, he wouldn’t have to wonder about the way she felt. “I wanted you the day we met.” Dipping her head she placed a kiss on his shoulder. “I wanted you the day we got married.” Her words were throaty and soft. “I’ve wanted you every day since we were married.” She nuzzled the crook of his neck. She smiled against his skin and whispered, “And I suppose, I’ll probably want you tomorrow.” Evie chuckled and nipped his ear.
As their conversation wavered on their daughter, she sat up a little to stare down at him. Their daughter seemed to display Dysmas’ temperament. That was probably a blessing to all parties concerned. Perhaps, having known the things that had gone on in her own mind, Evie was a bit more skeptical of trusting their daughter.
“We’ll see about that when the time comes.” She leaned down to nuzzle his neck again. “You sir, need a shave.”

Dysmas leaned into her soft touch, her fingers lightly caressing his face and tracing the line of his lips. She colored his world in a way that made everything vibrant and exciting. They’d built a life together... a family. Evie meant everything to him. He couldn’t help how his heart swelled with happiness at her words.
Her leg slid over his hips again, the blanket sliding down her back and baring her belly and swollen breasts to him -- but it was her face he was focused on. Dysmas sat up, his torso pressed against hers, and his arms snaked around her back to support her. She placed a kiss on his shoulder, nuzzled against his neck, and nipped his ear. Dysmas would be lying if he didn’t admit the intimacy had him slightly aroused.
They wouldn’t have time this morning for a romp between the sheets, not with the twins already waiting on them and plans for the day looming ahead. Their other children would no doubt be waiting on them as well, including the daughter of which they spoke. But the conversation would move beyond that quickly when Evangelina pointed out he needed a shave.
“You don’t like my whiskers?” he teased her, finally starting to wake up and planting an affectionate kiss on her nose, “I live my life to please you, darling. If you say I need a shave, then say no more, it shall be done.”
Dysmas smiled at her, running his hands up and down the length of her back lovingly. “But you know, if I’m gonna get up to shave, I’ll need my legs back,” he snickered.
He ran his right hand through her messy morning hair, letting the silky auburn strands slip through his fingers. She was the most beautiful woman in the world. He knew she didn’t think that, he knew the Leventis -- who were known for producing beautiful women didn’t think that, but Dysmas cared not for any of those opinions. The only opinion that mattered on that subject was his. Evie had him absolutely smitten.
“And you, my love, shall want to wear something nice for our company visiting later.” Women could take quite awhile to pick clothing as it was -- the task was made more difficult with a tiny human forcing the midsection to balloon outward. Dysmas was sure Evie would want some extra time to plan for her attire today.
Much as he’d like to, they couldn’t stay like this in bed today.
Perhaps tomorrow.
If she still wanted him then.

If she still wanted him then.
Dysmas possessed every piece of her that there was, both spiritually and corporeally. She had fallen completely for him long before they were even married and then each day she spent with him it only seemed greater. For her, she’d never wanted a prince on a white horse to sweep her away… no, for her she’d wanted an oddball who made her laugh, who could hold her and make her feel like she’d never truly existed until he’d touched her. Dysmas was that man.
He could, without words, send her a look from across a crowded room and set her body on fire. He could also, nuzzle that ticklish spot just behind her ear and make her laugh. He’d always been her friend, best friend even… but somewhere along the way, he’d become her partner. Her other half, no her better half. Every good thing she’d ever had, he’d given her and every bad thing there was, he’d soothed her. She couldn’t count the times she’d laid in his arms and cried but twice as many times he’d made her laugh, he’d made her feel loved, secure, sheltered. He was her lighthouse in whatever storms came their way. She could live without air sooner than she could live without him… and she wasn’t entirely sure when that had happened? Maybe that first moment she’d met him? She might not have known it then but that was probably the moment it had happened…
His arm snaked around her and she sighed happily against him. If the gods gave her a hundred more years with him, it wouldn’t be enough.
“Mmm…” She murmured, cuddling up against his torso more, her arms wrapping themselves around his neck. “It’s quite the opposite actually…” Her voice hadn’t quite woken up yet, thick and heavy she sighed and placed another kiss to his shoulder. “That beard is probably the reason we have so many children.” Evie brought her cheek up to rub against the side of his. He felt like happiness and she wanted nothing more than to exist in this perfect little moment.
His hands stroked her back and her eyes almost fluttered shut against their will. She chuckled at his words, her eyes falling shut again and she sighed. “You sir, ask too much. I am not ready to relinquish my treasures yet.” She shifted, her hands falling from his neck to reach behind her and stroke his thigh, her nails dragging against the skin. “Do you really need them that bad?” She teased back. Then leaned forward again against his chest and sighed. “You are my treasure. You make me so happy… I don’t know what would have become of me if you hadn’t turned up in my life, you know.” She kissed him once more, deeply this time as she poured herself into him.
As the kiss ended she sighed and rolled off of him to let him up. He was right. She needed to figure out how to make herself look less like a beached whale and more like Lord Dysmas’ wife. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him walking away and bit her bottom lip. That man would drive her insane. Her gaze lingered on him, a glance around from him and he’d note the wanting in his wife’s eyes.
Closing her eyes, she flopped an arm over her face and the baby moved to cause a small noise out of her. Her hand stroked the baby and she sighed. “The royal blue dress you say…” She cooed to the unborn child. “Why, I think you’re right about that… It’ll be perfect and what was that? You think your father should send the children to stay with their aunt and uncle for a few days so that we can have him for ourselves too? My, my… you are a such a smart little thing, aren’t you… I bet that you get that from me.” She teased, knowing Dysmas was still in earshot. Slanting her eyes back in his direction she smirked, “Don’t look at me like that… it was her idea… entirely… her idea…” Evie motioned towards her belly, “But it’s not a bad one…” Tilting her face up, she smiled at him. “I love you.”
