While Magnus was not one to discount the importance and capability of the fairer sex, the Master Informer was of... shall we say, more tradtional school of thought. He thought highly of the fairer sex and their opinion, and that was expected as he had grown up watching his father asking of his mother's opinion each time there were issues pertaining to their forge business. Magnus knew females could give just as good opinions as males. However, his issue was more of protection. His father had brought him up as a gentleman, and as such Magnus always ensured he was the one who was standing between danger and a female. It was also why he was working so hard to ensure a better life for his sister.
Yet the Drakos family was an anomaly in and of itself.
A family consisting entirely of females, that in itself was a fact that Magnus found hard to grapple with, as he wondered who exactly provided protection over a family who was entirely made of woman. Lady Tythra was a terrifying lady in her own right, and her admittance into the Senate should prove that she was a highly capable baroness. Yet at the same time, she had the duties and tasks of a mother to run.
It was because of that, that when Magnus spied the visage of who he knew to be Lady Imeeya at the docks of Midas with the company of who he was quite sure were pirates, he had intended to infom Lady Tythra himself, yet his necessary voyage to Taengea meant that he had instead, had to resort to sending a missive via pigeon mail, if only to give the lady a heads up before he returned home to see her personally.
But much to Magnus's surprise, he instead received a reply from Lady Imeeya herself, with a way of words that had surprised and intrigued him at the same time. While his arrival back in Colchis just the day before was met with a mountain of work no thanks to the fire that necessitated him crunching numbers to check on the survival and accounting for everyone within the city, Magnus somehow found the time to pay a visit to the Drakos residence, if only to seek further on what Lady Imeeya meant.
So that morning just two days after he arrived back in Midas,Magnus found himself being admitted to the waiting room of the Drakos manor. His hair neatly combed, his tall form cladded in a dark blue chiton held with golden clasps and a belt, Magnus eschewed sitting to merely stand by an open window as he waited to be granted his audience, his mind turning whilst he observed the rocky terrain that was his home Kingdom.

Imeeya had been in the middle of instructing the slaves on what needed to be packed for her journey to Taengea when there was a knock on the door to her chambers. A serving woman poked her head through the door as Imeeya acknowledged the knock. ”Lady Imeeya, Master Informer Magnus of Chaossis is here to see you.” Imeeya quickly hid her surprise at the message and nodded her head at the woman, both acknowledging the message and dismissing her from the room. The serving woman ducked back out of the room leaving Imeeya’s head spinning.
Imeeya had never really expected that the Master Informer would bother to respond to her letter. She had hoped beyond hope that he might listen to the request not to speak with her mother but never had she thought that he would actually respond to her request to meet to discuss things. The note had been hastily scrawled, and Imeeya’s own ambitions to find a place to stick a foot in the door of politics had led her to offer her help to the Master Informer. Could it be that he actually thought that her help was worth something? She couldn’t think of any other reason that he would have come here to meet her. Then Imeeya’s heart fell as she thought of another reason, maybe he wanted her there as a witness as he informed her mother that she had been seen alone in the company of a pirate and that she had intercepted the letter to her mother. That was all speculation, no reason to go to this meeting acting guilty.
Imeeya took her time changing into something fitting to meet with Magnus. It wouldn’t do to greet a guest in the plain chiton that she wore just around the house. Imeeya picked out a pale green peplos with intricate gold embroidery around the edges. If she was going to be scolded, at least she would look good while doing it. She also picked out one of her simpler golden necklaces and a pair of matching golden bracelets to complete the look. She imagined that this must be how a soldier might feel as they got dressed for battle. Imeeya sighed, mentally prepping herself for what she expected lay in store for her. She had to act as if she expected that Magnus was here to request her help. Better to assume the best and look confident than to assume the worst and show any potential weaknesses.
Imeeya made her way down to the waiting room and she entered to see Magnus standing and looking out the window. Imeeya cleared her throat to get his attention as she entered. “Master Informer. I’m glad you decided to come and talk with me.” Imeeya searched his face for any sign of whether or not this visit was going to go well for her or not. For a moment she considered asking if her mother would be joining them, yet she didn’t wish to give him the idea to speak with her mother if that wasn’t his intention. I believe we might be more comfortable discussing this in the sitting room.” Imeeya gestured Magnus through a door off of the waiting room.
The sitting room was more comfortably furnished, with several low couches. Imeeya took her usual spot on one of the kline and gestured for Magnus to sit across from her on another seat. ”I take it you got my letter.” Imeeya said to Magnus neutrally. She wanted to be more certain of the man’s intentions for the meeting before she said too much more and ended up in a tangle of her own words.

Consider it his way of feeding into his curiosity, but whichever it was, Magnus was... curious. To know the Drakos family was one thing - he had always seen the Lady Tythra in her spot amongst the Senators in Midas, a rare sight in a room full of men. Yet Lady Tythra carried herself with a sense of pride and confidence many men lacked. While Magnus knew of the visage of Lady Imeeya and Lady Essa in turn however, this would be the first time he was actually in interaction with them, and to a certain extent, the Master Informer was excited.
Walking with the slow, certain step of a person at an age where little else phases him, Magnus was led to the waiting room, where he smiled as the servant ducked out again. By the window, his gaze would wander to the ornate decorations the Drakos household adorned their waiting room with, and it wasn't till he heard the shuffle of steps, did he turn, ready to greet Imeeya with a polite smile and a gentlemanly bow as she entered. His face was unlikely to betray anything - he was his position for a reason. Magnus was always the image of a polite gentleman, and he nodded smoothly, following her lead to an adjoining sitting room.
Entering the comfortably furnished room, his eyes easily took in the softer patterns and low couches, a habit of his. A job of precarious positions, Magnus was used to taking in much information with a single sweep of his irises around a new room, and it was a habit he found hard to break even when in the house of a noble. His eyes turned back to Imeeya as she gestured, and with a flick of his wrist, he adjusted his navy blue chiton whilst he sank into is seat.
Back straight, eyes on Imeeya, the polite smile still on his lips, it deepened at her question, and a nod followed after. "Indeed, I did Lady Imeeya." he murmured in return, a slow tone. Did she have any other intention to her letter? "But perhaps.... you would like to say your piece first? After all, you did invite me to your residences. I was simply fearful for your safety, my lady. The characters I saw you with were unsavory at best."

Imeeya’s eyes briefly flashed with frustration at how little Magnus was willing to volunteer about why he was here, but she tried not to let it reach the rest of her face. She kept her expression neutral. Still, she had to admit that he didn’t seem to show any indication of having come over to tell her mother. In fact, he seemed to be questioning her actions down at the docks. Something that was not her fault. Certainly, he would be able to see that.
“I didn’t do anything wrong! Imeeya blurted out. She felt the need to justify her actions. It wasn’t her decision to get harassed by those men down at the docks anyway. She was taking the only way out that she could find. “He was protecting me from the sailors down at the docks. And I got away as soon as I could.” Imeeya sighed. “I just didn’t want you to tell my mother. She wouldn’t understand. I’ve already been forced to stay here in the house because I went to help during the fire.” Imeeya took a moment to take a breath. All of that had come out much faster and much more desperately than she had intended. It probably wouldn’t help her case to look too emotional in front of the Master Informer. He needed to believe that she knew what she was doing instead of looking like she had no self-control.
Imeeya crossed her ankles and sat up a little bit straighter before she continued. “I understand why you would wish to tell my mother. However…” Imeeya took a breath, trying to make sure that she chose her words carefully. ”If you don’t tell her, I’d be prepared to repay you. I don’t know what you would consider useful, but I’d be willing to help with whatever you think would be suitable. To the best of my abilities.” Imeeya sent up a silent prayer to Athena, Hera and anyone else who might be willing to listen that Magnus would take her proposition seriously, and he would decide against telling her mother what she had witnessed. She didn’t want to be forbidden from traveling to Taengea, it was her once chance for some real freedom and she wasn’t going to ruin that now.

It had always been his modus operandi, to keep silent and watch his opponent or target for their every move.He wouldn't make a move until he was sure he had every piece of information he could get his hands on, cautious as he was, and it was the same whether the spymaster dealt with Upper Class nobility or lower class common folk. Magnus's sharp eyes caught the brief flash of frustration, despite the young lady's struggle to keep her expression neutral, but when she finally blurted her words out, the dark-haired male internally smiled in satisfaction.
"That sort of unsavoury character isn't someone I think Lady Tythra would appreciate, help or not, Lady Imeeya. You should not have been wandering alone without your retinue or escort in the first place." he murmured in return, his voice even and calm. Even for his own sister, Magnus cautioned again and again for Leto to always have her companion with her when she was out. Despite them not being of noble status, Magnus's position as Master Informer meant he and his family held the tenuous position of upper-class common folk who had a foot in each world. But his dreams meant he had to ensure Leto's reputation was kept clean, and the elder sibling was taking no chances.
Raising a brow, in a way he could see why Imeeya wouldn't want such matters to reach the ears of Lady Tythra. The only female within the Senate of men, the lady of the Drakos family was a formidable force of nature whose intellect and mind would rival any male within the Senate. Unlike many other females, she had refused to allow a representative into the Senate for their House, and the Colchian assembly had finally agreed for the Drakos mistress to be admitted instead. That in itself, was enough for Magnus to know that as a mother, Tythra was unlikely to yield to her daughter's.
"Your mother has good reason, I should think." he said however, knowing full well that to question her parental skills would be hypocritical, for he too kept Leto under watch. But when Imeeya sat up straighter, a brief look of surprise passed his features as he took in the words the young lady of Drakos offered. Of course, he souldn't be. Imeeya seemed to have taken much after her own mother, a fact that shouldn't come as a shock. Yet Magnus was a caluclated one, one who always took any... debt, which would help when it came to a time when he needed to cash in a favor.
Interest flickered in the depth of his dark gaze. To his knowledge, he knew that Imeeya would be joining her cousins to travel to Taengea in a short few days - a kingdom he had only just returned from, but would be rife with news. After the fire however, Magnus could not afford to travel back to the kingdom of wine and ladies just yet, despite the tenuous political situation there. But Imeeya's suggestion now had him smiling in interest. While he could not be in the kingdom, perhaps having someone there would help in gaining information. Plus, gossip within the ladies of court were often much more in detail and had a far wider range of tidbits then those heard within the men, whose mind could be so one-tracked at certain times.
"It would have to be worth it, my lady. If the Lady Tythra knew of my keeping of information from her, it would be more then my job on the line."

Imeeya had to bite back her anger at Magnus’s assessment that her mother had a point, her eyes showing a brief flash of her anger. Everyone had been taking his mother’s side in this decision, and she couldn’t help but feel like she had to defend her own actions on this point. Still, it wouldn’t do to get in an argument with the master informer. Not when she was asking him for a favor at any rate. She wished she could tell him what she actually thought of that idea but now was neither the time nor the place. Instead, she kept the anger tucked away and acknowledged the opinion, as wrong as it was, with only with a curt nod.
As he moved on to his next argument, that he couldn’t be seen to be keeping things from her mother, Imeeya took a moment to compose her argument before addressing Magnus’s concerns. “I see no reason why my mother would need to know that you were keeping any information from her. I assume you aren’t planning on telling her that you know about the encounter at the docks. I certainly am not planning on telling her either.” Imeeya left out the fact that both her sister and Philippos knew of the contents of the letter from Magnus. Essa, she knew, would keep her secret. Philippos would too if he knew what was good for him. ”Given that neither of us plans to divulge this information, I don’t see what there is to fear from my mother.”
Imeeya shifted forward in her seat and a slight grin spread on her face as she moved on to the other concern of Magnus’s. ”As for whether or not it would be worth it, you may know that I’m planning on traveling to Taengea shortly with my cousins, Prince Vangelis and Princess Athanasia.” Imeeya was looking forward to the trip. Finally a chance to have a bit more freedom out from under her mother’s thumb. If Magnus wanted her help retrieving certain information, this might finally be her chance to make a difference, to actually play a role in helping Colchis in a tangible way, that didn’t involve putting herself in danger of getting burned. Her smile broadened at the thought. ”It might be good to have another set of ears there, not to mention a pair belonging to a woman. There are many things that we might be privy to that wouldn’t be said in front of men.” Imeeya hoped that her argument would be strong enough for Magnus to take seriously. The chance for this kind of undertaking was something she had been hoping for, and she knew that if she didn’t play her cards right, it could slip away in an instant.

Funnily enough, for a man who had not been brought up in all the trappings and rules of society, Magnus was quite a stickler for them. He knew that Leto did not enjoy his meddling, but with how long he has aspired to bring his family to greater heights and nobility, the man was not about to waste his chances by a simple misstep in society. Despite being a commonborn person, the dark-haired male who functioned as the Master Informer knew very well how a young lady of society should and should not behave, and while he knew of Lady Tythra to be slightly more unconventional then your regular Grecian lady, he doubted the leader of the Drakos House would appreciate her daughter wandering with unsavory characters. In a way, Magnus suspected Lady Imeeya knew that as well, for why else would she be cutting a deal so he did not speak to the elder Drakos matriarch?
Be that as it may though, Magnus was not one to walk away from cutting a deal.
"Walls have eyes, Lady Imeeya.' he murmured in reply. He should know, some of these eyes, if not most of them, were of his own network and informants. It was how he did his job so well after all. "If you do not think tongues wag, my lady, you have much to learn about being in society. To withhold or keep a secret mean many mouths to shut, and many deals made to many different people - not just me alone." In a way, Magnus was imparting a tidbit of knowledge to the lady. Had they been alone? Even if it had been that case to her knowledge, what happens in dark alcoves and who could be hidden in the shadows, was something not everyone knew all the time - not even Magnus himself. It was why he was careful to conduct all his dealings within four walls he knew of, and people he trusted.
His dark eyes showed no surprise at the news that Imeeya was travelling to Taengea, for it was information which had been conveyed to him by the crown prince himself in one of the meetings he's had with Vangelis upon his own return, and the many items on their tasklist that had to be completed after the fire ravaged the lower levels. A small smile curved his lips upwards, as the Master Informer leaned back, maintaining a respectable distance even as a thoughtful look entered his irises. "Perhaps." The male intentionally let his words trail off, as if he was observing the lady and assessing her suitability for a moment, silence hanging in the air. It was a ploy he played often, to unnerve whoever he was speaking to, for when unnerved, they gave up alot more.
It was a moment later, before he finally spoke again, his position not at all shifting in his seat. " Do you know of what has been happening in the Taengean kingdom so far, Lady Imeeya?"

Imeeya had been hoping for an opportunity to finally get involved in something strategic and useful for so long that she couldn’t believe that she might finally have an opportunity to bring it to fruition. Imeeya knew that she had to keep her temper in check, or she might blow this before it even started. Magnus seemed to be trying to make that especially hard for her. He wasn’t giving anything up and that was slowly rubbing her the wrong way. She didn’t enjoy feeling like she was under close observation, and she was starting to lose patience with Magnus.
She squirmed uncomfortably as Magnus pointed out that others might know that Magnus knew about her encounter with the pirate Lukos. Did he know that Philippos knew about the letter? Surely Essa wouldn’t have told her secret? She tried to hide the uneasiness she felt. It was almost as if she was being told off for her behavior and she didn’t like the feeling. Not to mention, It only reminded her of all of the people who might have seen her and Lukos together at the docks. At the time she had only thought it was Thea who had observed the fraught encounter with that unpleasant man, but now she knew that Magnus had also observed their interaction and she hadn’t even realized it until the letter had shown up for her mother.
When she relayed her travel plans to the Master Informer, he seemed to register nothing in reaction to the news. Imeeya found it very unsettling to have no reaction to her news. His piercing stare seemed to almost look through her as the silence stretched on. She wished to do something, anything to break the uncomfortable silence but fought her reaction to jump into the conversation too hastily, She didn’t want to give up whatever it was he was hoping to get from her, even though she had no idea what that might be.
Imeeya was almost relieved when he finally asked her what she knew about the news from Taengea. While Imeeya was usually more focused on local news than news of events from abroad, there was some news that that one couldn’t help but pay attention to. Still, Imeeya had only heard bits and pieces of the story. Gruesome as it was, it seemed that men thought that it was something that she needed protection from. “I am aware of the death of King Zanon at the hands of the Creed. Though I admit, that I have been spared the details of how exactly that death occurred.” While Imeeya was wording it politely, she did resent the fact that no one had been willing to share the details with her. “His son Stephanos has now become King of Taengea, and his wife Olympia is now pregnant with their first child.” Imeeya finished her recitation uncertainly. She was unsure if the man wished to test her on her knowledge of the events, or if he wanted to help fill in the gaps in her information. The way that he watched her appraisingly made her think it was much more likely to be the former than the latter. She hoped that her answer was up to his standards.

It wasn't surprising a revelation, that Lady Imeeya of Drakos was interested in a political relation. As the daugter of Lady Tythra, Magnus was not at all shocked that she was showing traits of her mother's strength. Being the only lady allowed within the Senate doors, Lady Tythra had fought hard for her acceptance, and Magnus had a large amount of respect for the lady. That being said, while Lady Imeeya showed a certain measure of promise, she was young yet, and had much to learn. To be expected to be given everything up to her on a platter was a risky move, and something Imeeya should learn. After all, the world of negotiations was a give and take, and with her position, age and stature, the places Imeeya could access was limited, albeit different from the ones Magnus frequented.
The spymaster knew when he hit his spot and revealed what she may not have thought of, his sharp eyes picking up the way in which Imeeya squirmed at his revelation to her. To be so thoughtless in actions was not something an experienced spy or politician would do. Knowing that they could be watched at any moment, Magnus has learned long ago to think of consequences far ahead before he acted on something.
Again, his reaction was neutral, almost null as she revealed that she knew of the death of the previous King of Taengea, albeit it wasn't inclusive of the gruesome details that came with his and his eldest son's death. "Enough, I suppose." he murmured, as if still considering. Standing up from his seat, Magnus wandered over to the window just beyond where they had been seated, his hands laced up behind him whilst he observed the lands the Drakos manor was built upon, all whilst he considered her proposition. Could he risk it? Of course, it was no large danger to Imeeya, so long as she no longer wandered near the docks to make illicit discussions with a pirate whose background was uncertain and may be of dangerous origins. That being said, what if she was to come to danger because of him omitting the information to her mother?
Mulling over his debate in his head, it was a long moment before he finally spoke up. Turning on his heel, the spymaster wore a crooked smile as he inclined his head towards the young daughter of the Drakos House. "You will tell me of whatever you hear going on within court in Taengea. I would not be able to make time to return there soon, so any information would be welcome. In turn.. I will not speak of what I've seen to others. However, you must not venture to meet the pirate again, my lady. It isn't something a lady of your stature should be doing, as I'm sure I have made you realize just a minute ago."

The conversation with Magnus was exhausting. It felt as if she had to use every fiber of her being to make her point, and every speck of her attention to catch the cues that Magnus was giving off in return. It was a real contest of wills, but she knew she was just a beginner playing against a practiced expert, one didn’t get to be the master informer for the Colchian royal family without knowing how to negotiate. She knew on some level that she wouldn’t get anything from the man that he wouldn’t have been prepared to give, yet she still wanted to prove to him that she was competent at negotiating for what she wanted.
Still, she found herself on edge as Magnus dismissed her knowledge of what happened in Taengea as simply enough. She felt as if she had been judged in her ability to gather information and was found lacking. As he turned towards the window to contemplate her actions, Imeeya felt her heart racing. He wasn’t giving anything away as to his intentions towards her. She only hoped that he wouldn’t reject her because she wasn’t knowledgeable about what was going on in Taengea. While she paid close attention to what was going on in her home country, she did not normally pay any special attention to the goings-on elsewhere. Perhaps it was time that she make more of an effort to take an interest in international news. There may come a time when it was important to her goals. She only hoped that now wasn’t such a time, and her lack of knowledge didn’t prevent Magnus from taking her idea seriously.
Imeeya breathed a sigh of relief as Magnus turned around and told her that he accepted her offer and that she had to tell him of whatever she learned within the court in Taengea. That would be easy enough for her to do. His agreement not to tell anyone else about what had happened likewise was good news and a grin spread across her face at the news. Imeeya was feeling wonderful about how this meeting had gone right up until he told her that she shouldn’t attempt any contact with the pirate again. Imeeya was livid at the implication, her mouth dropping open at the implication that she wanted anything to do with Lukos or had in any way encouraged him to approach her in the first place.
”I assure you that I did nothing to attempt to make the acquaintance of such a man in the first place!” Imeeya exclaimed, her anger radiating from her narrowed eyes. ”And I was already previously well aware of the fact that such a man was not a suitable acquaintance. If I hadn’t already been sure of that fact, that encounter did plenty to remind me of why I shouldn’t associate with pirates.” All thoughts of the deal between her and Magnus had completely fled from Imeeya’s mind. She did not appreciate being scolded for a situation that she had never wanted to be in and wasn’t something she had ever encouraged. This was exactly why she hadn’t wanted to tell her mother, and now she was getting this judgment anyway. Imeeya was shaking with rage at the thought.

With his own network of informants, both within the kingdom, and outside of it, whatever of knowledge to commonfolk and nobility, was often news that Magnus has heard hours, or days before. He was not granted is position as Master Informer for nothing afterall, for he has spent years prior to his appointment seeing people, building relationships and nurturing connections to people who are either indebted to him, or who would lay down their lives for him. Magnus had not come into is position by pure luck.
But the lady seemed pretty earnest. The reason for her earnesty however, was something that remained to be seen, and it was something Magnus intended to keep an eye out for indeed, even as he agreed to her offer. Something about the young lady of the Drakos House had him on alert, as if she had more on her agenda rather then simply assisting a Master Informer. Not one to come to a conclusion so quickly however, he simply allowed her to simmer in her misplaced anger.
"Be that as it may Lady Imeeya, whether or not it was your attempt to make acquaintence matters little to prying eyes, and those who would not bother coming to ask you for explanations." Magnus replied calmly, as if Imeeya's anger did not perturb him at all. And in truth, it did not. Used to remaining calm even in the most treacherous of waters, Magnus simply strolled over to take a seat on the handrest of the kline he had previously sat on, crossing his legs before continuing evenly. "Tongue's will wag, my lady, and they will not care whether or not you were actually aware of suitability."
As if finished with his business, it was then that the spymaster got to his feet, and straightened his outfit before giving the lady a polite bow of his head. "Anger may be a suitable weapon, but it has also proven the downfall of many, my lady. Be wary of what you show your peers and people around you while you're in Taengea, and you may learn more then you expected." Her anger had been too quick, too easy to ignite, something which could prove detrimental to someone who was wising to gain information. To show emotion would be to show, too easily, what affected one's moods, and it was why Magnus always appeared a picture of calm to others.
Turning around the spymaster made his way out of the room, and headed towards the main entrance to return to his work for the day, having satisfied what he came for. Once he returned, he would instruct his servants to avail a few of his trained homing pigeons for the usage of Lady Imeeya should she wish to send him a speedy missive from Taengea during her visit, but other then that, the spymaster had many other matters to attend to for the day, now that the matter of the young Drakos lady was dealt with.
