The temple of Aphrodite overflowed with offerings, and both men and women alike visited the temple of the great goddess of love, all eager for affection or blessings from the beautiful priestesses that resided and served all who visited. And then there was the temple of Ares, which were mostly visited by men eager to pray for victory and luck in war. The metallic tang of blood wafted out of the temple dedicated to the God of War - but neither of them was Evras's aim for the day.
Instead, the woman of twenty-eight veered off to the corner, and instead headed right for the center of the Naos Caverns, deep in the middle of the mountainous place of worship carved right into the rocks of Midas. There, Evras headed for the more quiet, reverent temple of Hera, her patron goddess and the one she respected the most. Ever since birth, Evras had never much entertained the idea of love. Instead, Nethis had instilled in her the sense of duty to marry for her family, to bring honor to the family name.
Funny how fate had its own hand in things.
In a funny twist of fate, Evras had ended up marrying the one she loved instead, and while things had been rocky up till a week ago, there could be no denying that the dark-haired maiden had always and would always return to her husband's side. As they had reconciled, she now felt guilt from having been sparse in her visits to Hera over the past few years as she had been caught up in how her husband had cavorted with many others while she had been isolated.
But now, Evras wanted to ask for forgiveness in ever doubting Hera's hand in guiding her marriage, and for thanking the goddess in ensuring that her reconciliation with her husband would be smooth. While they had plenty to talk about, Zanon and herself had at the very least promised each other that they would work things out together, so that was a step in the right direction. She had been spending almost every night in his bed since then, and their late night chats while entwined in each other's arms have greatly helped in their connection.
With her guards behind her, a sense of gratitude filled her as the columns with the peacocks, the symbolic animal of the goddess of Hera greeted her, and brought a soft smile to her lips.
Slipping free of her slippers at the top of the steps, a flick of her wrist told her guards to wait. She shrugged off her pale blue cloak, revealing the emerald green chiton she wore beneath, and handed it to her slave that came with her. Leaving the retinue at the doors, the peace that engulfed her as she entered the safe sanctity of the temple of worship. Evras wore no jewelry - she had no wish to outshine her goddess, and was simply here to pay her dues. In her hands, she carried a burlap sack that was filled with apples and pears, to which she handed to the priests at service, who would place them in bowls for offerings.
Kneeling, Evras offered up her own prayer and wishes, her eyes closed and her heads bent. She had many things she wished for - the health and safety of her son as he begun his military training with his uncles and father, the safety of her husband and his family after the storm of Boreas which had ravaged their city just a few weeks ago, and for Asia's safe passage as she was due to leave with Vangelis for Taengea very soon. But most of all, she prayed that Hera would bless the union between her husband and herself, and that they would no longer have to face such a huge rift between them as they had over the past three years.
