The Hanging Gardens rise majestically above the city. Constructed with tiered terraces of baked brick and stone, each level is an oasis of lush greenery, creating a verdant mountain amidst the bustling cityscape. Each terrace is supported by robust columns and arches, and each is adorned with a rich assortment of flora. The ziggurat is irrigated by an ingenious system of channels and water wheels, ensuring a constant flow of water sourced from the Euphrates River. Pear, quince, and almond trees decorate the structure, dotted among the hanging grape vines and the beautiful lilies. As one ascends the levels, the air grows cooler and yet remains always filled with the sweet scent of jasmine and the soft song of the many small birds that live among the plants.
